Oldsong

Oldsong

Larha's Supplies

I start off at #5 on the map of Oldsong. The entrance to Galawain's Maw is at #15.

Galawain's Maw

I start off at #1 on the map of Galawain's Maw. I head northeast and briefly overhear an argument, the significance of which will not become apparent until I return here much later on.

At #3 is an Orlan merchant named Larha, who sells mostly weapons and armors. There are two items that I purchase from her.

One item is the Medium Shield called Redfield, which Hiravias wields for the rest of the game. Besides the usual Deflection bonus for Hiravias personally, it also projects a passive aura that imposes a -3 Accuracy penalty on all nearby enemies that stacks with all other Deflection bonuses and enemy penalties to Accuracy. And indeed Hiravias' high Intellect score will mean that the aura is very likely to encompass and benefit the entire party during almost any battle.

I also add the Exceptional Quality enchantment to it, which requires an Emerald and a Vithrack Brain, in order to raise its Deflection bonus by +4.

I also purchase the Hatchet called Reghar Khonnek, which Kana uses as an interim weapon. I add the Fine quality and Corrosive Lash enchantments to it.

I also purchase any miscellaneous items she has which can be used during scripted interactions.

*Evil* Larha's Supplies

Eder gets the Redfield shield in the evil party, and with the same benefits. And I likewise add the Exceptional Quality enchantment as well.

Maneha gets Reghar Khonnek as an interim weapon. I add the Fine quality and Burning Lash enchantments to it.

The one distinctive difference for the evil party is that I purchase the Wei Toki Battle Axe for Zahua, which will be his other Battle Axe for the rest of the game. Besides the usual critical hit benefits that come with Battle Axes, Zahua will also be able to knock multiple enemies Prone in conjunction with his Torment's Reach ability. I also add the Kith Slaying Enchantment and the Freezing Lash enchantments to it. The latter enchantment is more to reflect the weapon's backstory as a weapon tied to the seas.

Delem

An Orlan named Delem will be at #11 on the map of Oldsong. He wants to consume three rare songbirds in order to augment his own singing voice. His request triggers the Songs of the Wild task. The party travels to Hearthsong.

Hearthsong

Tiam's Songbird

The entrance to Llensi's house is at #13. Llensi will be in the middle of the house, while a nearby crate has Tiam's Songbird. Strange as it sounds, the only way to get the bird without any reputation hit with Twin Elms and without any penalties for a Kind Wayfarer who hasn't taken the Untroubled Faith talent is to force-attack and kill her, and then take the Bird. One alternative is less than ideal (see below), while the other alternative requires a Resolve check of 12 and earns Cruel disposition. The good party next travels to Elmshore.

*Evil* Zakara makes the Resolve check of 12 that earns Cruel Disposition in order to obtain the Tiam's Songbird.

Elmshore

Shardwing Songbird

Now at #7 will be the Shardwing Songbird.

Temple of Hylea

Cloudsinger Songbird

I start off at #1 on the map of the Temple of Hylea. The Cloudsinger Songbird will be at #3. I travel back to Oldsong now that I have all three birds.

Songs of the Wild

Alliria puts on her Ring of Changing Heart with a view towards making a Resolve check. She speaks again to Delem at #11 on the map of Oldsong.

There is more than one way you can handle his desire to eat the birds. You could let him eat them. Or you could talk him out of eating some or all of them. Each time you give him a bird, you'll have the option of letting him eat it or trying to talk him into letting it live. The dialogue options that convince him to let a bird live each involve a Perception check of 14, an Intellect check of 13, or a Resolve check of 14. You can only use each ability check once. If you make an ability check, it will not be subsequently available the next time you give him a bird. Only the ability checks you haven't made yet will be available. That means you need a Perception of at least 14, an Intellect of at least 13, and a Resolve of at least 14, to give him all three birds and convince him to not eat any of them if that's what you want.

However you do things, whether you let him all of the birds or only some of them or none of them, you'll earn a minor increase in reputation with Twin Elms as well as the Song of Heavens (+1 Perception, +2 Shocking Damage Reduction) talent. That marks the completion of the Songs of the Wild task. The good party returns to Caed Nua.

*NOTE* The alternative resolution for the task is to persuade Delem to give up on his endeavour before bringing him all three birds, but keep in mind that will require accepting a reputation loss with Twin Elms. You won't get the Song of Heavens talent either.

One way to do this is if you speak to Casfath and Onwen. They will start off at #7 in Oldsong. They'll stay there. However, they'll go to #5 in the Temple of Hylea if you killed the Sky Dragon there and informed them of your success in that respect. You can bring up the subject of songbirds for Delem where ever you speak to them. They'll express the opinion that Delem's idea is absurd and that it won't work. If you relay that to Delem, he'll give up. You'll get your quest reward xp, but you'll also earn a minor decrease in reputation with Twin Elms.

The other route is to speak to Llensi, if you're willing to explore dialogue options that don't involve taking her bird right away. She is similarly dismissive of Delem's objective. Next is of course to go back to Delem. However, if Llensi is your source of information, you will need either the dialogue option based on you being a Chanter, or to make a Survival check of 4, to convince Delem on the futility of his plan. Likewise you will get the xp reward but also the minor decrease in reputation with Twin Elms.

*Evil* Songs of the Wild

Zakara actually encourages Delem to go through with eating all three birds. She gets the Song of the Heavens talent all the same.

A grand companion adventure now also becomes available, although I don't particularly care which one. It happens to be the one called They Who Woke the Stars. I assign Kana to it. The evil party travels to Ondra's Gift.

Blighted Coals

The good party returns to Caed Nua. A grand companion adventure became available upon my completion of the Songs of the Wild task. I didn't care which one, but it happened to be The Crossed Eye. I assigned Aloth to it.

I enter the Great Hall and obtain the Blighted Coals as a reward for The Coal Eater companion adventure. I have Kana equip it in one of his quick-item slots. It can summon a Magma Blight once per Rest. I then make my way to Stalwart Village.

Ondra's Gift

*Evil* Wei Toki Enchantment

It is time to enhance the quality of Zahua's Wei Toki axe, now that I have a pair of Sky Dragon Eyes.

It is night time when I arrive in Ondra's Gift, so I head over to Curnd at #8 and purchase a Sapphire from him. I now add the Superb Quality enchantment to it.

The video concludes with my return to Caed Nua.

The good party now resumes the White March expansion, starting with the Russetwood.

*Evil* The evil party explores the rest of the Endless Paths, starting with the 6th level. The reason is that items available from the Legendary Companion Adventures are more of a priority for the evil party, and not so much the good party. I therefore want the +10 stronghold prestige bonus that comes with killing the Adra Dragon sooner rather than later, so as to increase the odds of getting the Legendary-tier Companion Adventures that I want.
