CURST GONE

You arrive back in Curst to find the city gone!

As several people have told you, Curst is a gate town and gate towns can "slide" into the plane they border on. The skulls at the gate will tell you that when you freed Trias, he caused so much chaos in Curst that the city slid into Carceri. So since you're looking for Trias, you will have to look in Carceri!

The Vanished City

You arrive in Curst Gone at 1.

At 2 you can find a barrel containing 111 copper pieces and a Blood Charm.

Some of the crates at 3 can be burgled for:

If you solved the Moridor's Box quest back in Sigil (see the Northwestern Hive Sector), you will remember that the priest Aola scattered the fiend across the planes. Well, it seems he didn't quite succeed, because you can find the Fiend from Moridor's Box at 4. Also, the fiend has grown somewhat from the weak Lemure that appeared if you opened the box in Sigil. In fact, he is now a very tough fight if you challenge him, as he has several hundred Hit Points, does a huge amount of damage and can only be hurt by +2 magical weapons. The reward for killing the fiend reflects the toughness of the fight: 500,000 XP, 1,000 copper pieces and an Aegis of Torment, one of the best items in the game.

Once you're done looting and fighting, approach the gate to Carceri at 5. The skulls on the gate automatically initiate dialog – in fact repeatedly, each time one of your NPCs approach the gate, which is an annoying bug – to inform you what has happened to the town. It seems that when you freed Trias, it caused so much chaos and mayhem that the entire town slid into Carceri. The skulls tell you that your destiny lies beyond the portal; the Deva awaits you there.

If your intelligence is at least 21, you can ask the skulls, "What happened to you?" and then "Is it just me or are there far too many talking, disembodied heads around these days?". This line of dialog nets you 3,000 XP.

You can rest near the gate. Once you're ready, step through the portal into Carceri.
