THE MOUNTAIN
Mountain Map
Wizard's Cave
I go from #1 on the map of the Mountain to #7, where I use the elevator to return to the Hazard Zone.
Hazard Zone Map
I go from #8 on the map of the Hazard Zone to #7, where I use the Rope & Hook to shimmy across the chasm. I then make my way through the gate at #1.
Castle, Lower Level 1:
That brings me to #10 on the map of the Castle Lower Level 1 map. I go down the stairs a little northwest of #9.
Castle, Lower Level 2:
That brings me to #1 on the Lower Level 2 map. I use the Wizard's Ring at the game at #6 of the Lower Level 2 map. I have to fight a Demonic Hellcat once I step through. I have Terra use a Fire Shield she found along the way to reduce the damage from the Hellcat's breath.
After that, I open all of the chests for their loot. The important chest is the one in the NW corner. It has a Wizard's Diary that suggests Necromantic rituals in the Spire Towers of the Castle, as well as the Spire Key.
Now I face the west central wall and "Search" to reveal a passageway. There will be another chest. In the NW corner of the next room is a mish-mash of powders and such. I have to 'Strike Stick' and take some damage. This will open a passageway to #7 on the Mines Level 1 map.
Mines, Level 1
Now I go from #7 to the stairs going down at #20 on the Mines Level 1 Map.
Mines, Level 2:
And then I go from #20 to Smitty's shop at #30 on the Mines Level 2 map. I sell off my excess loot and go back up the stairs at #20.
Mines, Level 1
And now I go from #20 and up the stairs at #4 on the Mines Level 1 map.
Mountain Map
The Toll Troll
Now I make my way towards #8 on the Mountain map, but I get accosted by the Toll Troll. I'm not giving him anything, so a fight is inevitable. He calls in a Miner Giant and some Miner Dwarves for help. The Troll can dish out pretty good damage, and can also take a lot himself before going down. I don't take any chances with this one, Bless from my Bard (through Angel's Tongue), Armor Plate from my Lord, and Missile Shield from my Bishop (to block the boulders). I eventually manage to outlast them.
Now I head for #8 on the Mountain map. This represents the first of a few points where you have to climb up or down the side of the mountain. Always save your game first, and reload if you happen to slip and fall. Zarax carrie s the boulder since he has the greatest carrying capacity.
At the top of this side of the mountain is a place where you can always get a Heavy Boulder or two. Take at least one, it will come in handy soon. I go back down the side of the mountain and then down the stairs at #4.
Mines, Level 1
Captain's Treasure
I then go from #4 on the Mines Level 1 map to #5 of the same map.
Mountain Map
I then go from #5 to #9 on the Mountain map, which is a drawbridge that needs to be brought down before you can cross it. The correct sequence is to face east at #9 so that you're facing the button and wall, then use the Mystery Oil that you should have bought from Queequeg, and then use the following sequence, "Safety", "Pump", "Coilwrap", "Truss", "Safety", and then "Winder."
Now I head to #10 on the Mountain map. Again, save before you attempt to climb up. Reload if you slip and fall. At the top is the Captain's Treasure, which I discover has already been looted by Queequeg. He was however nice enough to leave behind Baubles & Trinkets, which will come into play later on.
I climb back down the mountainside, reloading to avoid falls if I have to, and go back down the stairs at #5.
Mines, Level 1
Sprocket
I go from #5 on the Mines Level 1 Map and down the stairs at #28.
Mines, Level 2:
I arrive at #28 on the Mines Level 2 Map and return to the magic fountain at #28. I spin around until I get enough xp to advance Zarax to his 11th level. Note that I'm now willing to have Zarax use his breath weapon more, now that my characters have practiced some of their skills to perfection. Using the breath weapon earlier would have meant killing my enemies faster, but it would also have lessened somewhat the opportunities for my characters to practice their skills.
Note also that Chun-Li my Monk has reached 100 skill points in Ninjitsu. She also no longer needs to practice hiding, and can immediately use her Martial Arts attacks at the start of each combat.
I leave #28 and go through the dark hallway. I go up the stairs at #27.
Mines, Level 1
I next go from #28 on the Mines Level 1 map and up the stairs at #6.
Mountain Map
Now I go from #6 on the Mountain Map to #11. I "search" the Catapult to find a Broken Sprocket. I go back down the stairs at #6.
Mines, Level 1
I go from #6 on the Mines Level 1 Map and down the stairs at #27.
Mines, Level 2:
Now I go from #27 on the Mines Level 2 Map, through the dark hallway, and up the stairs at #28.
Mines, Level 1
I next from from #28 on the Mines Level 1 Map and down the stairs at #20.
Mines, Level 2:
Now I go from #20 to Smitty's shop at #30 on the Mines Level 2 map. I "give" him the Broken Sprocket and pay him 1,000gp to fix it and get the Sprocket in return. I thereafter go back up the stairs at #20.
Mines, Level 1
And now I go from #20 and down the stairs at #28 on the Mines Level 1 Map.
Mines, Level 2:
Catapult
I then go back to the fountain and spin around for enough experience to advance the rest of my party to 11th level.
Errol manages to reach 72 Thaumaturgy points, so he takes Levitate as a 5th-tier Air spell. It's a utility spell that can really come in handy during some situations.
All of Zarax, Ryu and Terra advance to their 11th level at the same time, at 768,000xp. So I compromise a little bit. Zarax and Ryu got ideal level-ups with lots of attribute bonuses and hit points and skill points. Terra got only one attribute bonus, and less than ideal skill points. But she at least got 5 hit points, so I can live with that. I also reason that this is the last time that Ryu and Terra will be levelling up at the same time. Hereafter I can insist on good level-ups with plenty of bonuses for both characters individually.
It's more than 200,000xp until the next level, so now's a good time to get back to exploring. I go through the dark hallway and up the stairs at #27 on the Mines Level 2 Map.
Mines, Level 1
I then go from #27 and up the stairs at #6 on the Mines Level 1 Map.
Mountain Map
I go from #6 to the Catapult at #11. I attach the Rubber Band and Sprocket in it, and place the Heavy Boulder in the ladle. I fire the Heavy Boulder at the target, and reload if I miss. I keep reloading and trying until I hit bulls eye and clear the way.
The Gryn Twins
Now I head from #11 on the Mountain map to #12 on the map. I climb up, and soon have to face the Gryn Twins. They can dish out pretty terrific damage if they happen to land a hit, so I also cast both Armor Plate and Missile Shield just to be sure. Terra also uses an Enchanted Blade scroll she had on hand.
Guardian of the Rock
At the start of the video, notice that there's a passage to the left, and a stair way to the right. I intend to go up the stairway first, but there is a tough boss monster waiting at the top. I went to him without resting as my Armorplate and Enchanted Blade are still in effect. The boss monster in question is the Guardian of the Rock, which can hurl boulders for pretty hefty damage, and also spew boulders like an area-effect spell. The Bard casts Missile Shield to stop the individual boulders. As long as the party keeps itself protected, and goes the distance, they should be fine. Once the Guardian falls, he leaves behind one of two Ruby Eyeballs that will be needed to open a door later on.
Now I come back down the stairs and through the passage to the left. This leads to the Achtung elevator. The way is now clear for me to venture on to the Pyramid.
