RATTKIN TREE
Brute Hogars
Where the videos resume is when I arrive at the entrance to Trynton on the west side of the map.
I make my way east and run into a Brute Hogar on two separate occasions. They're level 15 and have 500+ hit points. And they're a legitimate threat to knock out and kill party members, even against high-level parties. So Chun-Li once in a while has to make use of Smelling Salts to wake party members up.
I make my way to the rope at the spot marked 'Up x 2' and climb up. I try to rest, but get interrupted by a Battering Hogar that I need to kill. I afterwards rest up, put my buffs back up, and then take the entrance to the Rattkin Tree.
Ratt Key
I start off at the spot marked 'Down' on the map of the Rattkin Tree. I go west and south along the walkway, and defeat a group of Swarming Wasps.
I climb down the rope at the spot marked 'R', and fight another group of Swarming Wasps.
I continue east and south along the lower walkway, and enter the Razuka's base. I find the Ratt Key at the spot marked 'RK'.
And from there I continue east along the lower walkway until I reach the spot marked "Rattkin Breeders". The Ratt key is needed to open the door.
Rattkin Breeders
Now it is time for me to kill the Rattkin Breeders, who are enormous and can score pretty hefty damage with their axes. I start with a Toxic Cloud from Terra, and a Fire Bomb (i.e. Firestorm bomb) from Chun-Li. Vi Domina casts Guardian Angel on RFS-81 while Rothgar casts the same on Ryu. The Breeders usually target those two characters. But one of them went after Terra in the instance shown in the video, so I had to hear her and cure her poison. But I otherwise don't have trouble cutting down the Breeders.
Chun-Li hurls a Flash Powder at the Archers, with the point that the one who is Blinded flees the room. I kill the other two, press up against the back of the room to end combat, and quicksave.
Note that Rattkin Archers have a 70% chance of dropping any item from the Rattkin drop list. One of the prize items that I want out of this fight is the Ring of Beasts (+2 armor class, +1 stamina regeneration, +10 Sense, +20 Mythology, Felpurrs and Rawulfs only). In fact, I want one two for Ryu and for RothgarPriest, and I insist on getting the first one out of this fight. The point of leaving one of the Archers alive after Blinding him and quicksaving is that I rapidly scum-save killing him over and over again until I get the Ring of Beasts.
I loot the bow and arrows in the room after that's done.
Don Barlone and the Astral Dominae
Now I go to the building at the south edge of the map, the headquarters of the Razuka. I could pay Barlone 90,000gp for Astral Dominae.
But I prefer to attack him and Milo. The reason being that Don Barlone has about an 80% chance to drop the Cane of Corpus (+4 to hit, +5 initiative, 12-42 damage, 100% damage, 50% paralyze, 15% kill, cursed), which only a Faerie Ninja can use. Since the Cane of Corpus is cursed (but not harmful to the wielder), using it means a commitment to using it in melee combat exclusively without ever being able to change over to another weapon (e.g. Boomerang Shuriken).
The Don and Milo together can provide a tough fight. Their throwing attacks aren't much of a threat, although they can poison. Their melee backstab attacks can both do plenty of damage and poison. Just as with the Breeders, I put Guardian Angel on both RFS-81 and Ryu. Errol does Angel's Tongue and then Rousing Drums. Chun-Li used a Canned Elemental she had found earlier to summon an Elemental.
I got a lucky bounce here in that RFS-81 managed to knock out Don Barlone right away. I thus end up killing both him and Milo in short order. It's usually not that easy, even for higher-level parties. Now I pocket the Astral Dominae, one of the three artifacts I need. Terra equips the Cane of Corpus as well.
Rattkin Goons and Snipers
You may notice that prior to killing the Rattkin Breeders, there were various groups of Rattkin that patrolled the tree and show up on the map as yellow to signify neutral. Once you kill the Rattkin Breeders, the rest of the Rattkin, except Don Barlone and Milo Calzone, will go red and hostile.
This provides me with certain opportunities. I run into 5 Rattkin Snipers and 4 Rattkin Goons along a narrow walkway. Since they all start within view, I immediately hit them with cloud spells like Toxic Cloud, Acid Bomb, and Fire Storm. Also, the narrow walkway also allows me to hit them with 'straight ahead' offensive spells like Ego Whip from my Bishop and Shrill Sound from my Bard's Piercing Pipes.
Rattkin Snipers have an 80% chance of dropping an item from the Rattkin Archer drop list, while Rattkin Goons have a 100% chance of dropping an item from the Rattkin Regular drop list. So I insist until I get another Ring of Beasts for Ryu. One of the benefits of this set up is that the two Rings of Beasts, combined with the Cloak of Perception, brings his Senses up to 91 and therefore obviate the need to put any points into Senses. I prioritized Intelligence and Dexterity to begin with in order to acquire the Power Cast and Reflextion skills. And now I can keep pumping up Strength and Vitality without worrying about any other attributes. Haste from Errol's Rousing Drums will take care of Speed as well.
I go west, up the rope at 'R', back to the elevator and return to the exterior of Trynton.
That brings me back to the long rope at 'Up x 2' on the map of Trynton. I now have an easily time killing a couple of Brute Hogars on the ground, since my weapons now usually paralyze them in their tracks. I go east to enter the Swamp, en route to the Old Mine Tunnels.
