SHS: Generalized Biffing Updated to v2.9

Posted on Nov 10, 2024 21:32 by Ancalagon

Spellhold Studios

Thanks to Argent77, Generalized Biffing is now compatible with EEex, supports non-ASCII filenames (important for the legacy version of Infinity Animations), and has been repackaged with Windows, macOS, and Linux installers in the same, single ZIP archive!

This WeiDU tool allows you to biff the contents of the override folder for improved performance in IE games; this means the files are converted into the BIFF file format and moved into the data folder. The game thereby loads much faster again and the performance is smoother in the original games. User reports have indicated that it is, in most cases, unnecessary for the EEs.

G3: Grey the Dog Updates to v10 with completed Russian...

Posted on Nov 03, 2024 20:03 by Ancalagon

Gibberlings Three

Grey the Dog NPC

Grey is a full-fledged joinable NPC, but still a real dog. The only magic on him is his magically enchanted items.
He has sensible interjections (Woof!), NPC banters (mostly NPC dialogues about him with the PC), a click dialogue (PID) if the PC feels like playing fetch or just needs someone to talk to. There are dialogue options that reflect the game story and I'll promise: Grey will always listen to your PC's woes. Grey initiates no dialogues so there is no friendship track and - I am really sorry, but no romance. Not even for Shapeshifters.
In BG1 there are two small quests, both available in BG city. The quests are also available and solvable without Grey in party. In SoD, there is a quest that will evolve along the different camps. Talk to Belegarm with Grey nearby to kick it off.
Where appropriate, Grey can be told to "search" for missing persons, in BG1 Brage and farmer Brun's son, in SoD the five missing refugees, Skie, the item for his quest, and for SoD Brage crossmod the missing girl. This is realized so it doesn't spoil the quests too much, though, so do not expect too much help.

Grey can follow the group as a "7th party member". There are some quirks with this mode and also levelling up needs to be done by letting him join from time to time (please refer to readme), but it works great if you need the slot for another NPC without having to send Grey back home.

Please note: So far, the mod officially contains full BG1 and SoD content. BGII content is not finished yet, but Grey will join the group in Irenicus' Dungeon.

Version 10 comes with completed Russian translation by scheele!

Changelog:
-Crossmod banter with Brandock should not end abruptly.
-Grey's movement rate upped by 2 at level 1 (now +4 instead of +2 compared to before).
-PIDs after Sarevok's death should not show before.
-Optimized scripting for Transition to BGII (BGT/EET).

Kerzenburgforum: Adalon's Blood updates to v16 with...

Adalon's Blood

Author: Gandalf the White

Coding and co-author: jastey

Adalon's Blood Modification is for Baldur's Gate II (BG2, BGT, BGII:EE, EET). It enables the player to ask Adalon for somewhat of her blood to end the 'skinner' murders in the Bridge District without having to kill her. This is mainly aimed at good aligned characters who want to finish the quest in a good way: to discover and eradicate the clients of the skinner and cleanse the armor in a temple.
Nevertheless, evil characters with CHAR of 18 or higher may also attempt to convince Adalon to sacrifice some of her blood. There is a 25% chance of success for them in deceiving the silver dragon.

Version 16 comes with chinese version by Lzw104522773 and compatibility with Tangled Oak Isle! Thank you for the translation!

Changelog:
-added Chinese translation, by Lzw104522773
-compatibility with Tangled Oak Isle mod added: No NVROL in Adalon's dialogue (UDSILBVER 45); skin armor can also be brought to temple if it was not made with blood from Adalon
-added possibility to give the human skin tunic to a temple (LEAT22)
-restructured tp2 to use English as default language
-update to WeiDU 249

WM: The Return of Xzar and Montaron is now available!

Posted on Nov 01, 2024 07:22 by Ancalagon

The Return of Xzar and Montaron, a new BG2EE mod, is now available at Weasel Mods!

The mod adds a new quest after the original Xzar & Montaron quest is finished. Follow it and work with what Xzar left you and you'll be able to see the evil pair once again! Finishing the quest allows you to join the necromancer and the fighter/thief and learn more about their aspirations and plans. The mod also introduces two fully-fledged companions, timered talks, scenery talks, banters, interjections, mini-quests/encounters, items... and, hopefully, some fun.

Montaron comes with an additional option: it's not exactly a "romance", but a "adventurers with benefits" option, that's not as long as romances, but is an option for all those Charnames that do not look for "one true love", but neither want to live as a celibate.

There is also a third companion, that is more of an easter egg than a full companion.

Special thanks to @megrimlock, @The Artisan, and Soul.

SubtleMods: 5th Edition Spellcasting mod updated to...

Posted on Oct 25, 2024 18:04 by Ancalagon

5E Spellcasting has been updated to version 2.7 with important technical improvements. The mod uses a complex system under the hood to convert the 2nd Edition spellcasting system of the BG games into a more flexible system like that in 5th Edition D&D. This system was prone to causing the game engine to freeze up under certain circumstances; there were easy player workarounds to avoid those circumstances, but as of version 2.7 that is no longer necessary.

You can download the mod here, and read the Readme here.

* * * * * * *

The SubtleMods compilation provides tweaks both large and small to almost every game mechanic, and also adds and expands game content to improve the player experience:

  • Combat Skills & Proficiencies provides alternate rules for weapon proficiency advancement and fighting styles, and adds a feat system that is integrated into the game's proficiency system.
  • SubtleD's Spell Tweaks overhauls some systems underlying certain spells, like familiars and illusionary clones, and tweaks several dozen spells on a smaller scale to make them more balanced, more distinctive, and more fun.
  • SubtleD's Item Tweaks includes a flexible, customizable dmaage resistance system for armors, and improves several individual items to make them more engaging and useful.
  • SubtleD's Stat Overhauls improves various aspects of ability scores, adding new bonuses, new penalties (!), and more interaction with other systems like spell memorization.
  • 5th Edition Spellcasting allows casters to use 5th Edition D&D rules: you prepare a certain subset of your known spells, and then you can cast your prepared spells interchangeably.
  • Magic Battles Revised streamlines the arcane "magic duel" system, making it more sensible and more fluid.
  • IWD_EET_Integration alters the way tipun's IWD and IWD2 mods interact with EET: it allows those campaigns to be played independently from level 1, and optionally adds some IWD content into the BG2/SoA campaign.
  • BP-in-BG inserts the Black Pits 1 campaign as a single big prestige dungeon inside the Baldur's Gate 1 campaign.
  • Reflections of Destiny remixes SoD content and changes the end of the BG1 campaign for a more enjoyable transition.

Taken together, these mods represent a unified vision of how the game's mechanics and content can operate and interact in improved ways. However, because everyone's taste is different, these are designed to be as modular as possible, allowing players to pick and choose from among different components as they please. Compatibility with other mods is maximized wherever possible.

Unearthed Arcana: Will to Power updated to version 2.8

Posted on Oct 25, 2024 18:04 by Ancalagon

Will to Power has been updated to version 2.8, with important technical improvements. The mod uses a point-based spellcasting system for psions, which was liable to case the game engine to freeze up under certain circumstances. There have been easy player workarounds to avoid those circumstances, but as of version 2.8, that is no longer necessary.

You can download the mod here, and read the Readme here.

* * * * * * *

The Unearthed Arcana series of mods represent a number of changes and additions to classes in the Baldur's Gate games:

  • Might & Guile offers new abilities, new kits, multiclass kits, and various class improvements for fighters, rangers, thieves, and bards.
  • Tome & Blood offers new sorcerer and wizard kits, multiclass kits, and various improvements to game mechanics for mages and sorcerers.
  • Faiths & Powers offers a slew of new priest kits, more divine spellcasting options, several alternative sphere systems, new kits and archetypes for paladins, kitted multiclass clerics, multiclass druids, and multiclass shamans.
  • Will to Power adds a heavily 2E-inspired point-based psionics system to the game, with four different psion kits and wild talents for non-psions.

Taken together, these mods represent a unified vision of how all the game's classes can operate and interact in new and improved ways. However, because everyone's taste is different, these are designed to be as modular as possible, allowing players to pick and choose from among different tweaks and improvements. Compatibility with other mods is maximized wherever possible.

Tome and Blood has been updated to version 1.2 with technical improvements. The multiclass sorcerers and Arcanist kit could, under certain circumstances, cause the game engine to freeze up. There have been very easy player workarounds to avoid those circumstances, but as of version 1.2, that is no longer necessary.

G3: Modding Livestreams Begin Tomorrow

Posted on Oct 19, 2024 16:52 by Ancalagon

The Gibberlings Three

For aspiring modders, one of the things I (CamDawg) always recommend as a first project is an item pack. It gives you a little bit of experience making items, creatures, stores, and some basic scripting and dialogue. As part of the Baldur’s Gate Community Creative Craziness Challenge, I will be doing just this, as announced earlier this month.

I will be livestreaming the creation of the G3 Community Item Pack, where all item submissions have come from the community. Tomorrow, Sunday October 20th, at 9 AM California time--1600 GMT, noon in the eastern US, 5 PM in London, 6 PM in Berlin, or 1 AM in Tokyo--I'll be streaming on YouTube for a couple of hours, and will stream every day at the same time until the project is complete. I'll be taking it from the beginning as I create items, creatures, stores, art, and everything else needed to make a mod. Along the way I'll be showing how to navigate modding the Infinity Engine, showcasing the tools we have to make mods, and will be happy to take any questions.

The first stream is scheduled, and future streams can be found on the channel. If you can't make the streams live, they will remain available for later viewing.

WeiDU Mod Packager GitHub Action updated with...

Posted on Oct 17, 2024 04:12 by Ancalagon

WeiDU Mod Packager is a highly customizable GitHub Action that can be used to automate the creation of mod packages. Like AL|EN's Infinity Auto Packager it takes care of adding PI-specific iemod packages and platform-specific zip archives whenever a new mod release is published.

The latest update provides:

  • Creation of a unified mod package that includes installers for all supported platforms (Windows, Linux, macOS).
  • More customization options, such as a mod filter, and more options to customize the mod package name.
  • Several improvements, such as creation of mod packages that contain several mod folders (e.g. EET, EET_end, and EET_gui).

More details, operating instructions and a number of predefined scripts can be found on GitHub: WeiDU Mod Packager

WeiDU Mod Packager: A GitHub Action for modders to...

Posted on Oct 06, 2024 02:22 by Ancalagon

WeiDU Mod Packager is a highly customizable GitHub Action that can be used to automate the creation of mod packages. Like AL|EN's Infinity Auto Packager it takes care of adding PI-specific iemod packages and platform-specific zip archives whenever a new mod release is published.

The action provides a number of parameters to customize mod package creation, such as:

  • Mod package type: iemod package or platform-specific zip archive (Windows, Linux, macOS).
  • Architecture of included setup binaries: e.g. x86 (32-bit) or amd64 (64-bit).
  • Mod package version: Whether to draw version number from the mod's tp2 VERSION flag, the GitHub release tag name, or specify a custom version string.
  • Naming scheme: Derive from the mod's tp2 filename, the "Name" definition in the PI metadata file, or provide a custom mod package name.
  • WeiDU version: The WeiDU version to use for the mod's setup binary.
  • Platform-specific name prefixes: Helps to identify the target platform of the created mod package. The default prefixes are fully compatible with the modhub micro service.

G3: Have an idea for an item? Get it made!

Have an idea for an item? Get it made!

For aspiring modders, one of the things I (CamDawg) always recommend as a first project is an item pack. It gives you a little bit of experience making items, creatures, stores, and some basic scripting and dialogue. As part of the Baldur’s Gate Community Creative Craziness Challenge, I will be doing just this.

As a tutorial live stream.

As a collaborative project, creating items submitted by you.

Welcome to the G3 Community Item Pack! I'm looking for item ideas (post them in this thread). If you're an artist or writer, I'm also open to submissions for some basic dialogue for the merchant, or a portrait for the merchant, or item art. I'm primarily looking for items to be placed into BG2, but we can also make the project cross-platform if folks have ideas for items that work better in BG or IWD.

Live stream date and time to be determined later in the month.

SHS Moves to a New GitHub Organization

Posted on Sep 23, 2024 00:32 by Ancalagon

Spellhold Studios will be changing its GitHub account. The owner of the previous organization and a prolific IE modder, Gwendolyne, disappeared suddenly in 2022, unfortunately without appointing a successor with the ability to effectively maintain our modding projects there. Sadly, all attempts to contact Gwendolyne or restore full access through GitHub Support have been to no avail, which is why we have decided to create a new account.

All SHS mods will be gradually transferred to the new organization, which will be maintained by trusted, friendly, and open-minded Staff members. We recognize this as an initial inconvenience to Modders, but we hope our efforts put into preserving the community's legacy make up for it.

The new organization is available at: github.com/Spellhold-Studios

A complementary Index of Mods will be updated with links and descriptions.

To help our members and visitors reach us more easily, we have also enabled two communication channels: SHS Discord server and GitHub Discussions.

We hope to see you there!
