SPELLHOLD
To Spellhold
Now I head towards the north edge of Brynnlaw. On the way I get attacked by a man named Greyhand (an addition of the Unfinished Business mod). He's pretty easy to kill, in spite of his Clerical buffs. He leaves behind a Leather Armor +2, and the Boots of Hastened Departure (increased foot movement speed, once a day can improve saving throws by 6 and armor class by 8 for 20 seconds, cannot move when using the special power) which I'll just sell cause I have different boots in mind.
I continue northwards, fighting my way through one pack of Wraiths and Shadows. At the top of the stairs will be more Wraiths, Shadows, and Shadow Fiends. This fight can be tricky, since they'll attack me as soon as I reach the top of the narrow stairs. Avastrian thus softens them up with a Fireball, even if it means risking some damage to himself and party members. They are then a good deal easier to kill after taking fire damage.
The Co-ordinator
Now I enter the door to the Asylum itself, which requires the Wardstone to pass safely. I am given a tour by the Co-ordinator, who turns out to be Irenicus in disguise. Yoshimo is also revealed as a traitor who slipped spell ingredients into my food to make my party vulnerable to a sleep spell.
Rapture of the Father
Irenicus commences a ritual, which forces Avastrian into unconsciousness. He wakes in a dreamscape that resembles Candlekeep. He goes a little ahead, and encounters a Demon that demands a -1 sacrifice of one of my attribute points. As for my choice? I obviously don't want my Strength to go below 19. Same thing for my Intelligence score of 19. I also don't want to have less hit points due to Constitution. I also value a higher Wisdom score, since it means a bonus to saving throws against mind-affecting abilities. Charisma is not an available option. That leaves Dexterity, which is at 20 due to Avastrian's Elven heritage and his having increased it during the first game. The differences between Dexterity scores 19 to 21 is negligible. The Dexterity score of 22 that would improve my armor class further is unattainable. On the other hand, letting my Dexterity score fall to 19 gives me a cushion in that I can still sacrifice another when I do the Selfishness test in hell. As long as my Dexterity score does not fall below 18, I can still keep my Dexterity bonus of 4 to armor class. The choice thus becomes an easy one.
He enters the gate and finds an image of Imoen. She bids me to lead 'the beast' back to her. I leave the Keep and go to the left, where I find a personification of Bhaal's instinct towards murder that resembles Sarevok. I lead him back to Imoen's presence. Keep in mind that the Bhaal creature can hit pretty hard. I found it sufficient to add Mirror Image on top of Stoneskin in order to outlast it.
Problem is that Irenicus will have completed his ritual at the same time. I lose all of the inherent Bhaal powers that I acquired during the first game, as Irenicus has taken Avastrian's soul into himself. He orders Bodhi to dispose of me.
Bodhi, however, wants to have fun with a cat and mouse game, so she brings me to a dungeon and leaves. I am reunited with Imoen, and she now joins my party. Note that I had saved a Shortbow +1 and the Quarterstaff +2 for her.
This turn of events sends the party to the first level of the Asylum Dungeon.
