THE UST NATHA TAVERN

This is the place where the inhabitants of Ust Natha come to rest, to drink, or to amuse themselves in Drow fashion. You will primarily be coming here to rest between jobs or to meet up with Phaere and Solaufein but you can also take up a few challenges, or listen to the stories the locals have to tell.

  1. Here is the entrance from Ust Natha.

  2. The main area has several storytellers and a challenge:

Scordrin manages the fighter pit at 4. If you wish, one of your party members can enter and fight progressively harder opponents.

    - The first opponent is an Umber Hulk. For defeating it you get a reward of 250 GP.

    - The second opponent is a Nabassu. This time the reward is 500 GP.

    - Your third opponent is a Sahuagin Prince. Your reward for defeating it is 750 GP.

    - The last opponent is a Beholder, worth 1,000 GP – if you survive the fight, of course.

Ilmryn can fill you in on Ust Natha's history.

Tathlyn will not share his stories with a filthy Nasadran (foreigner) like you!

Baragh will tell you of the Scattering, the collapse of the Drow city of Bhaerynden, and of his own part in the "Running" (a raid on Humans and Halflings a century earlier).

Nym Khalazza can fill you in a bit on House Despana (the house you'll be working for), Phaere and Solaufein, and some background information on Adalon.

Finally, Merenid will tell you an alternative tale of Drow history (he is a worshipper of Vhaerun). This so annoys Tathlyn that he kills Merenid for his blasphemy.

  3. Here is where you will meet Phaere and Solaufein on a few occasions; first time after you have saved Phaere from the Mind Flayers.

  4. Here is Scordrin's fighting pit where you can fight various monsters. Just speak to Scordrin outside.

  5. Here is the Drow Bartender who will sell you drinks and lodgings.

  6. Here is Sondal who sets up fights in the fighting pit at 7. If you can beat his pet fighter, you get the Bastard Sword Blade of Searing +3.

However, you also end up with a challenge on your hands. Apparently you have humiliated a Drow family and they now demand satisfaction. One of your mages can now go up against a succession of mages, three in all. For me, the key to winning was to put up defenses in advance and summon monsters to keep the enemy mages busy.

  7. Here is Sondal's fighting pit.

  8. Here are the stairs to the second floor.

  1. Here are the stairs back to the first floor.

  2. Here are the lust chambers. The male Drow in the topmost room can heal any female characters of yours. I haven't found any use for the female Drow in the lowermost chamber or the one outside the chambers.

  3. Here are members of the House DeVir being tortured for not dying with their house – but instead sneaking into the city in disguise! How dare they? ;-)

Oddly enough, even Viconia DeVir has nothing to say about it.

  4. Speak to the Drow up here, and he shows you his game: You press a button, and a slave walks out onto the rune and is killed.

For 100 GP per time, you can pay him to have more slaves killed. The party loses one reputation point each time. A rather childish and expensive way of shooting yourself in the foot, if you ask me.
