MAIDEN'S GLADE
The reason I do this area first is that having Elanee in the party will make the fights against the Bandits and the Undead in the Graveyard a lot easier.
Elanee to the Rescue
I make as though to travel to Highcliff, except that I get interrupted by a random encounter. It's another Bladeling and several Duergar Dwarves. An Elven Druid casts Entangle over them and then joins the fray. The fight is perfectly winnable through the standard theme. Khelgar jumps ahead to absorb the initial onslaught. Valeria and Neeshka hang back a bit, and then pick their spots for sneak attacks. The Elven Druid, Elanee, is now a controllable companion and she helps matters along by damaging all of my enemies with a well placed Call Lightning spell.
I consistently pick dialogue options (trusting her with knowledge of the Silver Shard, the Lore check about the name "Eridis") that will win influence with Elanee. She then joins the party.
*Evil* Elanee to the Rescue
The equivalent video, where both Zarathos and Elanee are able to use Call Lightning spells to considerable effect.
Zarathos only reluctantly accepts Elanee into this party, and also seizes every chance he gets to belittle and insult her. The dialogue foreshadows the future when he will deliberately murder Elanee.
Frightened Animals
Elanee leads the others to the glade, but now the animals attack us. These include Wolves that attack us as soon as we enter at #1. The party retreats to the edge and then rests up.
Here I demonstrate one of the key benefits of including Elanee in the party, her ability to put Barkskin on multiple party members and thus giving them long-lasting boosts to armor class that will stack with other sources of armor class. By the way, if you want to remove the skin-effects of spells like Barkskin and Stoneskin (like me), install the hak available through this link. I afterwards equip Elanee with the Greater Gloves of Spellcraft and the Boots of Winterland that I had acquired earlier.
I then have to fight some Dire Boars at #3. And finally I have to fight a few Wolves and a few Dire Badgers at #2. Straight physical combat suffices to get the job done. A dialogue ensues as to whether I should try to find out what is causing the animals to attack, or ignore it and press onwards. Valeria agrees to the former choice, which results in a +1 influence gain with Elanee but a -1 influence loss with Neeshka.
*Evil* Frightened Animals
Here's the parallel video for the evil party. Zarathos chooses the dialogue response that involves not bothering to find out what is causing the animals to attack. That results in a +1 influence gain with Neeshka but a -1 influence loss with Elanee.
Kaleil
I then head over to #4. A Huge Enraged Bear attacks me. Khelgar puts himself first to get the Bear's initial attention. Valeria and Neeshka flank it to inflict sneak attacks. The Beetle Familiar chips in a Shocking Grasp. I soon bring it down. It turns out to be a Druid named Kaleil, who was driven insane by a dark force infecting the Mere. The exit to the World Map is at #5.
*Evil* Kaleil
The parallel video for Zarathos, where he displays apathy towards Kaleil's fate. While it does not have any influence consequences, it predictably provokes an annoyed response from Elanee.
My next destination is the Graveyard.
