Endless Paths - Level 3

Endless Paths, Level 3

Thrulgar

The party starts off at #1 on the map of the third level. A trapped sarcophagus at #3 will have some random coins and/or items.

An Ogre named Thrulgar is at #3. I speak at length with him, and fall in with his request that I kill his former chieftain named Zolla and bring back proof of the deed. This conversation triggers the Desperate Measures task.

Ogres in Endless Paths - Level 3

There will be Ogres throughout the southern half of the 3rd level. If I run into a single one, Grieving Mother will zap it right away with Eye Strike. Alliria will go all out with Sworn Enemy and both Flames of Devotion, in order to take it out as quickly as possible in order to minimize damage to the party.

The approach changes if I inevitably run into groups of three or four, which will typically include an Ogre Druid that can use spells like Plague of Insects, Calling the World's Maw and Stag's Horn. I have Hiravias expend a Returning Storm to catch all of them if possible with periodic bolts of lightning that will also stun their targets. Grieving Mother will also attack in order to get at least 30 Focus, with a view towards using Puppet Master on one of the Ogres and having it turn on its fellows. Kana will also summon a Phantom whenever possible. The battles won't always work out the way I'd like at this level, and reloads are inevitable. But it's a matter of getting it so that things more or less work out favorably for me. I cut my way to the stairs at #12, which allows me to reach the trap door in Caed Nua at #4.

Caed Nua, Rebuilt

Note that the Brighthollow restoration isn't complete yet, not for another day and seven hours. I didn't include it in the video, but I went to Winfrith's Arms and Armory in Dyrford Village to sell off my excess loot, and returned. The restoration will now be complete, so that I can now rest in Caed Nua without expending Camping Supplies.

But first, I level up the Orlan Rogue. I take the Reckless Assault ability. It is a modal ability that grants +8 to Accuracy and +20% to Damage, but at the expense of a -8 penalty to Deflection. That may seem an odd choice for an off-tank, but I will minimize the Deflection penalty with the Deflecting Assault talent on the next level up. Furthermore, the Damage bonus from this modal will stack with the Damage bonus from the Savage Attack modal when I get it. And of course, Mechanics remains a priority.

I rest up, and take the door at #4 back down to the stairs at #12 on the 3rd level of Endless Paths.

I kill off more Ogres and Ogre Druids with the same methods, conducting a sweep that goes to the corpse at #9, past the room at #15, continuing west and killing off the group near #13. The video concludes with the party returning to the surface, resting up, and returning to #12.

*Evil* Zolla

I show this part from the evil side. The Ogre Chieftain named Zolla will be at #15, along with a couple of other Ogres and an Ogre Druid. I begin by setting up the party in the room north of #14. I send Eder ahead by himself to the south entrance to Zolla's room. He brings an Ogre on the west side of the room into view, and then shoots it with the Hunting Bow he's had since the beginning of the game. He leads it back to the rest of the party to cut it down with minimal damage, and thereby lessen Zolla's support beforehand.

Now Aloth sets a Poison Dart Trap just a little west of #14. I repeat the process with the Ogre Druid on the west side of the room, although in this instance the Druid is relatively more reluctant to follow Eder all the way back to the party. So Eder sometimes has to tag it multiple times with his Hunting Bow in a hit and run kind of way to lead the Druid on. Also, the Druid's spells are still a danger, so Durance casts a Consecrated Ground spell to keep the party more or less healthy as I hack it down. Kana summons a Phantom whenever possible, while Eder also uses Knock Down whenever possible.

Aloth sets another Poison Dart Trap just west of #14, and I more or less repeat the same process with Zolla herself. Zolla's corpse will leave behind Zolla's Torc, which will be the item that Thrulgar wants.

There is a hidden bone pile at #16 that has an item from the "Endless Paths - 3rd Ogre" section of the random drop list. It happens to be day 11 of the month for the evil party, so I grab the opportunity to extract Boots of Stability from the bone pile. These will be Eder's boots for the rest of the game. The resistances to Prone and Push will help him maintain his front-line tank position in front of the spellcasters.

*Good* It didn't particularly matter to the good party what item they got from the bone pile.

Black Oozes in the 3rd Level of Endless Paths

There will some Black Oozes in the room at #17. They're by now fairly easy to kill off. The video concludes with the party looting the containers at #18 for random potions, scrolls, coins, etc.

Desperate Measures

Alliria brings Zolla's Torc to Thulgar to conclude the Desperate Measures task. Thulgar provides her with an xp reward, plus a Robe called Rundl's Finery. I have no use for the Robe though.

Now I rest up and grab the Camping Supplies and other random items from the niche at #4.

The video concludes with me taking the stairs at #19 to enter the the fourth level.
