LOWER BARROW
The Story So Far
The new story begins with Valeria waking inside a barrow (at #1 on the map) in the distant land of Rashemen. She is soon joined by the Red Wizard named Safiya.
It turns out that Safiya has a Shortsword +3 to lend her. Valeria also takes away her Enchanter's Satchel and her Shaper's Alembic, since she'll be using them herself. She also unequips her Thieves' Hood, since she'll be giving it to Gann anyway.
The video concludes with Valeria getting 500xp for clicking on the nearby runes.
Valeria's 21st Level
Valeria easily had enough xp to advance to her 21st level after defeating Black Garius. It's only now that she can begin to take epic levels.
The first epic feat that she takes is Epic Prowess. The +1 to attack bonus is nice, but the real point is that it's a prerequisite for both Expose Weakness and Combat Insight.
Valeria can only now begin to cast 8th level spells, and it's at this point that she starts making effective use of her Persistent Spell feat. She uses one of her 8th level spell slots to memorize a Persistent Blade Weave spell, which she can cast at the start of each new day. It will last until when next she rests, and it can't be dispelled.
The City of Judgment
I make to leave the small cave where Valeria woke up. A dialogue ensues with Safiya. I deliberately choose the "You seem to care for him a great deal" dialogue option when the subject of her Homunculi familiar, Khaji, comes up in order to increase my influence with Safiya.
I go on ahead to #2 on the map. I have to fight a Barrow Guardian. There is a small risk that the Barrow Guardian can petrify its target on contact, but it is otherwise easy to take down with physical attacks.
A container near the campfire has:
However, if you use it on a weapon, it will be consumed but then imbue the weapon with the following properties:
Khaji
I make my way towards #3 and fight another Barrow Guardian on the way. I talk to Khaji for a bit, ask him what he can do, and then make the "that can be useful" comment in order to increase my influence with Safiya.
*Evil* Zarathos often makes the effort to be amenable to his companions as well, as a matter of practicality. He definitely wants the benefits of the feats that come with having high influence with his companions.
#3 marks the exit to the Middle Barrow.
