Neverwinter
Breath of the Fated Winds
I travel to Neverwinter, and fight some Water Elementals along the way. The regular Water Elementals will each leave behind Glowing Water Essences. The Huge Water Elemental will leave behind a Radiant Water Essence.
Once I reach Neverwinter, the gate guards insist on a 200gp entry fee, and will do so every time until I get a Neverwinter Entry Pass.
I show up at #1 on the Blacklake District map. The next person to talk to is Sir Nevalle. Sometimes he'll be at #7 on the District Lake map. Sometimes he'll be inside the Wailing Wench Tavern, the entrance to which can be found at #5. Sir Nevalle suggests that I join with one of the merchant cartels to get a Neverwinter Entry Pass.
Incidentally, Grykk Bannersworn, a recruitable Half-Orc Paladin, can be found inside the Wailing Wench as well if you're interested.
My next stop is at #1 on the Temple of Waukeen map. I get welcomed by Allana, who is at #2.
At #3 is Beleuth the Calm, an evil Rogue who would be willing to join the party for 5,000gp. A successful Bluff or Diplomacy check could reduce it to 3,000gp.
At #4 is Manycoins Erasmus, who provides basic healing services.
Now I have my choice of three cartels, the good-aligned Circle of Friends, the neutral aligned-Forgotten Lords, and the evil aligned-Fated Winds. I choose the Fated Winds, the choice largely has to do with the items that will become available through Jacoby depending on which cartel I choose.
The Circle of Friends representatives can be found at #7. If I had joined them, the special items that would been available included:
With some speaking to Martin Keller, I join the Fated Winds for 250 trade bars. I also get my Neverwinter Entry Pass.
Price of a Song
I travel to Highcliff, at #4 on the Sword Coast map. In the common room is a Half-Elf Bard. He wants my help because a false accusation has resulted in him being banished from Neverwinter, where he is scheduled to give a performance.
Now I travel back to Neverwinter. I speak to Sir Nevalle, who relates that Finch has been accused of theft. He in turn suggests that I speak to Lady Jeanelle about. She is waiting just outside the Wailing Wench Inn. She exonerates Finch of the theft. Sir Nevalle in turn exonerates Finch once I bring the information to him.
I return to Highcliff and bring the good news back to Finch. I get 1,200xp for completing the quest.
I speak to Finch again in the room at #2 on the Merchant Headquarters map. Janette has the Leadership feat, so Finch joins my party as the sixth party member.
Highcliff Trading Post
I leave the Merchant Headquarters. First I speak with Daerred, who's near the building at #7 on the Crossroad Keep map. He indicates that an Adventurer's Guild will soon be opening.
I travel to Highcliff again, and pay the 100 trade bars and 5 Timber needed to open up a trading post there. Highcliff will be the town that sells Mithral as a resource.
I return to the Merchant Headquarters and inform Sa'Sani. Sa'Sani in turn refers me to Caravan Master O'Dell.
O'Dell is waiting just outside the Merchant Headquarters. I can speak to him about setting up caravans between Highcliff and Crossroad Keep, and upgrading them. I instantly shell out any gold needed to upgrade the Highcliff-Crossroad Keep caravans to the max.
It is worth explaining why I do that. Once Caravans are set up, Caravans (as indicated by wagons travelling on the Sword Coast map) will periodically travel to and fro between both locations of the caravan route. When a Caravan successfully completes its journey, it will mean more trade bars for me.
Now here's the catch. A Caravan wagon can be vulnerable to getting attacked and even destroyed by monster groups that appear on the Sword Coast map. Upgrading a Caravan route to the max pretty much makes the Caravan wagons indestructible. That makes any gold invested into maxing out the Caravans a no-brainer investment, as the trade bars that come in can be converted to gold and more than make up for anything I spent.
Mithral Armors
Now I pay Jacoby another visit. He now has the aforementioned Fated Winds items for sale. He also has special items with a Wizard theme available on account of having set up a trading post in Highcliff. They include:
I purchased the recipes for Mithral Full Plate, Mithral Breastplate, and Mithral Chainshirt.
Now I travel to Highcliff, and purchase 4 Mithral ores (worth 200 trade bars each). I return to the Merchant Headquarters. I go near the Blacksmith's Workbench, and craft the Mithral Full Plate for Janette, the Mithral Breastplate for Umoja, and the Mithral Chainshirt for Vandala. I also enchant each armor with a +2 enhancement bonus.
Propaganda Upgrade
I travel back to Highcliff, which will have Ores, Skins, and Timbers in abundance for trade. I purchase 5 of each.
I return to the Merchant Headquarters and speak to Variel. I invest 500 trade bars in the company. I can then purchase the Propaganda upgrade, which also requires 5 each of Ores, Skins, and Timbers. The point is to increase my trade bar income by a certain percentage.
Creature Handler
A special random encounter appears once I leave Crossroad Keep. A Creature Handler appears, and wants my help in healing. I refuse, because I want some gold and xp out of the encounter.
The Zhentarim Sky Mage and a Wyvern attack me. Umoja stays on top of the Mage with his bow. The other party members take care of the Wyvern in short order.
Think of the Children
I head back to Neverwinter and speak to Sir Nevalle. He wants me to find an alternative site for an orphanage after an older one burnt down during the war against the King of Shadows. One way to resolve it is to speak to Erasmus Manycoins in the Temple of Waukeen in Neverwinter.
I enter the interior of Crossroad Keep, where an Elven Favored Soul named Soraevora Aeravand offers her services as a joinable companion. I then speak to Khelgar, and have little trouble convincing him to fall in with Sir Nevalle's request.
I bring the good news back to Sir Nevalle, and get 700xp and 750 trade bars as a reward.
My next destination is the town of Phandalin.
