Thundertree
Kana
I make my way back to Phandalin for the time being, and purchase 5 Ores from the trading post. Those Ores will be needed to set up another trading post at Thundertree.
Another special encounter shows up on the overland map, the former Seneschal of Crossroad Keep, Kana. I could kill her for her Katana +3, but it results in far less xp for me. The Katana won't fit into my plans anyway, since I don't feel like having to get the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat for anybody to use it.
I prefer to simply spar with her and get 500xp for it.
Enraged Worgs
I stop off at Crossroad Keep and collect my trade bar income.
Now I head north from Crossroad Keep. At #16 on the overland map is the Worg Den.
I arrive at #1 on the Worg Den map. I don't have much trouble bringing down the Enraged Worgs and the Enraged Worg Pups in melee combat. They all leave behind Worg Fur so I rack up on those for purposes of crafting item ingredients.
Towards #2 on the map will be several more Enraged Worgs and Enraged Worg Pups, led by an Enraged Worg Den Mother. I slaughter them all. The Worgs leave behind Worg Furs. The Mother leaves behind a Greater Worg Pelt.
At #3 is a scroll that indicates that someone is protective of the Worgs, and will become vengeful should anyone harm the Worgs.
Thundertree Trading Post
At #17 is the town of Thundertree. I pay the 100 trade bars and 5 Ores to set up a trading post with the Town. I then easily pay the gold to maximize a trade route between Thundertree and Crossroad Keep.
Eldreth Veluuthra Camp
At #18 is the camp of members of the Eldreth Veluuthra, an Elven supremacy group. They aren't difficult to kill once my warriors close the distance on them. The Rangers leave behind magical ammunition of random sorts. There is also a footlocker that will have random items in it.
Burial Barrow
At #20 is the entrance to the Burial Barrow. I clear out several Ghouls and Wights upon entering.
I then buff up. In particular, I have Janette cast Death Ward on everyone. There's a specific reason why.
Further ahead are a pair of coffins. Two Vampires attack the moment I open one of the coffins. The Death Ward protections allow me to physically overwhelm the Vampires with little worry.
One of the coffins has recipes for:
Gloves of Dexterity +6
Now I return to Crossroad Keep. Jacoby now has new goods available for sale from Thundertree. Most of them are ammunition and things like Shederran Crossbows and Duskwood Bows and Zalantar weapons. Unique items include:
I collect my trade bar income from Variel, which is about 1137 or such. I head over to the Magician's Workbench. Gallard hands the Drider Silks and Panther Pelts over to Janette. She then uses the Gloves of Dexterity +6 recipe to create the gloves from one of the Leather Gloves. It also consumes 3 Drider Silks, a Panther Pelt, and 18,000gp in the process.
I was at about 21,000gp beforehand, and the first pair of gloves brought me down to 3,000gp. So I trade in 2,200 trade bars to Variel to get the gold I need. I now make two more Gloves of Dexterity +6.
Janette, Umoja, and Vandala each wear one of the Gloves for the rest of the game, allowing them to take full advantage of the Dexterity bonus of their mithral armors.
17th Level
Here I grind it out for more xp to reach the 17th level. Note that a little southeast of the Eldreth Veluuthra Camp is a spot that can be revealed by a Search check. It yields a Blue Diamond which can be useful for crafting later on, and a Nymph Cloak +6, which Vandala wears for the rest of the game. She hands her Nymph Cloak +2 over to Janette.
When I do level up, I make a point of adding another prerequisite for a teamwork quest, +2 to Survival (to the extent that I can). The exception is Finch. I continue pursuing the requirements for the Shadowdancer prestige class for him, this time putting points into Move Silently and getting the Dodge feats.
Tyburn the Mad
I return to the Worg Den. At the same place where the scroll was are a priest of Malar named Tyburn the Mad and a couple of Umber Hulks. I manage to cut them down without much trouble.
Tyburn leaves behind a Chainmail +2 and Malar's Claw (Scimitar +2, Wounding DC=18). I have no use for either since I have other plans, so I'll just sell them.
My next destination is the town of Conyberry.
