There is more than one way to reach the Lower Caves from the Upper Caves. The stairs at #7 of the Upper Caves map lead to #16 on the Lower Caves map. You can also use a Rope and Grappling Hook at the ice chute at #5 on the Upper Caves map to create a way down to #31 on the Lower Caves map.
There is a crate at #22 on the Lower Caves map. It has the Severed Horn, the acquisition of which triggers the task.
Acquiring the Severed Horn prompts a vision of Garodh, who witnesses a companion of his about to be killed by some sort of aqueous creature. You will, during this vision and other points in the task, have a choice between having Garodh heroically attempt to save his companion, or cowardly saving his own skin. The choices are significant, since it will affect what benefits are available through the reward item for the task.
Now go to Yduran at #8 on the Stalwart Village map. You will now notice that he has a cracked horn amongst his wares, and there are three options for its purchase:
Use the Honest reply to admit that you need it to complete a task. His price becomes 600cp.
Use the Deceptive reply to downplay its value. His price becomes 300cp.
Simply indicate a willingness to take it off his hands. His price becomes 400cp.
Whatever the price agreed upon, you will now have the Cracked Horn in your inventory. You will also have another vision of Garodh. And again, you have a choice as to whether Garodh goes on the attack in an effort to save his friends, or cowardly hides from the serpent.
Once entry is gained, the party will start off at #1 on the Great Hall map. The Battered Helm is in a chest at #24 on the map.
You will also get another choice as to whether you stand and fight, or play dead like a coward.
The Battered Helm, Severed Horn and Cracked Horn now assemble together into a Helmet called Garodh's Chorus. Which version of the helmet you get depends on the choices you made during the visions.
