Goose and Fox
The Bartender's Ring
I enter the Goose and Fox and end up at #1 on the map of the main floor. A locked chest at #12 has the Bartender's Ring. Alliria wears it as one of her rings for the rest of the game. She's one of the heavy-hitters in the party, so equipping an item that provides bonus damage against Spirits and Vessels makes perfect sense. There is also the additional point that it increases the chances of triggering her Strange Mercy power when fighting such monsters.
*Evil* Zakara will wear it for now in the evil party.
Two-Tone Weaxel
The stairs to the upper floor are at #5 on the map of the main floor.
The party will now be at #14 on the map of the second floor. At #15 will be an adventuring party led by Two-Tone Weaxel. Alliria exercises the option of purchasing the March Steel Dagger from him. An Intellect check of 12 convinces him to knock the price down from 100cp to 50cp.
*Evil* Two-Tone Weaxel
Zakara chooses the Aggressive dialogue option to provoke a fight with Two-Tone Weaxel and his crew. Zakara and Kana go to work on Two-Tone on the left. Eder positions himself to the right and holds up the other enemies. Aloth blasts away at the enemies surrounding Eder with Fireballs. Durance casts Blessing, Consecrated Ground and Interdiction before helping out Eder. Grieving Mother uses Phantom Foes and then helps out Eder as well. The battle is soon won.
The obvious item of interest is the March Steel Dagger, which is looted from Two-Tone's body. The other item of interest is a Ring of Deflection. This becomes one of Durance's rings for the rest of the game. It is a perfectly sensible item for him to have as an off-tank.
The video concludes with me checking in with Bishop to rest in one of his rooms for the night.
Something Secret
Now I return to Gordy at #11 on the map of Copperlane. The Resolve and Might-based dialogue options remain available. Alliria nonetheless chooses to give him the March Steel Dagger. However, she also makes a Survival check of 4 that also earns Benevolent disposition in order to instruct him on the proper handling of the dagger. The point is to avoid the boy cutting off a few of his fingers with the Dagger afterwards.
*Evil* Zakara doesn't bother with the Survival check, and leaves Gordy to suffer the accident. The fact of Gordy losing his fingers will be announced by town criers in Defiance Bay later on during the game.
Oaken Scarab Figurine
At #6 is a hidden niche which as an Oaken Scarab Figurine, which can summon 3 Wood Beetles once per Rest. I have Sagani equip it in the good party, and Durance in the evil party.
The video concludes with the party returning to the Goose and Fox.
Kaenra's Ring
Kaenra is at #10 on the map of the first floor. She's convinced that a Svef addiction and some unsavory new friends have changed her boyfriend, Purnisc, for the worse. A Survival check of 2 or an Intellect check of 10 will reveal that Svef addiction symptoms are inconsistent with what she describes. She gives Kaenra's Ring to Alliria with the intention that the ring be delivered to Purnisc along with the message that their relationship is over. This event triggers the quest called His Old Self.
The good party now rests up. Construction of the Towers upgrade has been completed, so now I select the Barracks for construction. I thereafter leave the Goose and Fox.
Purnisc's House
The entrance to Purnisc's House is at #24 on the map of Copperlane.
I start off at #1 on the map of the main floor of the House. Purnisc (or so I assume) will be at #3. I give him Kaenra's Ring, but he doesn't seem particularly moved as a result.
There's more than one way to go about things. I could pick a fight with the false Purnisc (who is actually a criminal Wizard in disguise) then and there, and slaughter all of them.
I could also end the quest early by returning to Kaenra and informing her of the delivery of the ring. Doing so results in minor gain of reputation with Defiance Bay, and her giving me an amulet called Unwavering Resolve.
I instead decide to cut the conversation with the false Purnisc short and explore the house more thoroughly. A guard at #5 will not allow me to pass, and usually turn everyone else in the house hostile against me if I try to go up the stairs. However, Alliria gives him a 100cp bribe to let her through. The stairs to the next floor are at #7.
*Evil* Zakara is able to make a Resolve check of 14 after having previously selected the Merchant's Stay resting option (+1 Perception and +1 Resolve) at the Goose and Fox.
Rusted Bronze Key
I start off at #8 on the map of the upper floor. There will be a few Guards at #11, whom I kill off very easily. One of them leaves behind the Rusted Bronze Key.
Purnisc
I use the Rusted Bronze Key to open the door at #14. The real Purnisc is at #15. I agree to his request to kill the impostor Purnisc, actually a Wizard named Nyrid, along with his gang. I head back down to the lower floor.
Nyrid
I position Alliria and Grieving Mother close to the false Purnisc. I position Hiravias near the guard just to the left of the false Purnisc. I also position Kana and the Orlan Rogue at the nearby door. I then start the dialogue with the false Purnisc, who reveals himself as a Wizard named Nyrid. Alliria manages to quickly take out Nyrid. She and the others then take out the two Guards that had been flanking Nyrid. Kana and the Orlan Rogue hold the other enemies up at the door, and eventually cut through them to make room for the rest of the party in a regrouping effort. The battle is over rather quickly.
*Evil* Nyrid
Zakara instead comes to an understanding with Nyrid. She agrees to murder Purnisc for Nyrid, and thereby earns Cruel disposition. Part of the bargain is a discount on the Svef that he sells, but I don't really have any use for it.
His Old Self
I go back up to the second floor and speak to Purnisc again. He'll want me to lie to Kaenra to cover up the fact that he's a Svef dealer. A Deceptive reply would fall in with that request. It is also possible to make a Might check of 14 that earns Aggressive disposition that strongarms him into cutting you a discount on Svef purchases. That is ultimately immaterial, because he would still be willing to give you the discount anyway at the conclusion of the quest. Alliria, however, insists on the Honest reply and informs him that Kaenra will be told the truth.
I now return to Kaenra in the Goose and Fox. All possibilities that dispose of Nyrid and leave Purnisc alive will now result in being rewarded with Unwavering Resolve. The first choice comes with whether to deceive her or be honest about with her about Purnisc being a Svef dealer. The Deceptive option covers Purnisc's Svef trade, and will not result in any increase in reputation with Defiance Bay. She will indicate a desire to go back to Purnisc, but she also wants Kaenra's Ring back. The Cruel and Deceptive replies allow you to keep the ring, although you can't do anything with the ring or sell it. The Benevolent option returns the ring to her.
Alliria chose to be honest with her and inform her that Purnisc is a Svef dealer, which earns a moderate boost of reputation with Defiance Bay. Two more choices become available. The Rational and Stoic replies convince her to break it off with Purnisc, and will result in another slight reputation boost with Defiance Bay. The Benevolent and Passionate replies convince her to give Purnisc another chance, and earn another moderate reputation boost with Defiance Bay. Alliria chose the Benevolent option, and thereby concludes the quest called His Old Self.
*Evil* His Old Self
Zakara goes back up the second floor and force attacks Purnisc to complete the bargain. She takes a minor hit to her reputation with Defiance Bay after confirming the kill to Nyrid.
Kaenra will no longer be in the Goose and Fox after this course of action.
*Evil* 7th Level
The evil party now has enough experience to advance to their 7th levels. I'm not particularly invested in what Kana or Grieving Mother will get (who at this point doesn't quite have enough xp yet but even so), since they're temporary party members.
Zakara gets the Inspiring Triumph ability, which adds +7 to all Defenses for all party members with a certain radius of the Paladin when the Paladin kills an enemy. It is a logical choice for a Paladin build that already revolves around an 'on kill' effect like Remember Rakhan Fields. Since the bonuses spring from the use of a Passive ability, they will stack with other Defense bonuses as well.
Eder's acquires the Overbearing Guard ability. Any Engaged enemy that tries to Disengage from him now also risks being knocked Prone. It is this ability, in combination with abilities or talents that increase the number of enemies he can keep Engaged, that allows him to keep several enemies locked down around him and away from Aloth and Durance. The fear of getting knocked Prone will discourage many enemies from attempting to Disengage from him, and should they try, getting knocked Prone accomplishes lock down anyway.
Aloth learns two spells. One is the Pull of Eora. It sets up a small gravitational vortex at a spot chosen by the caster, pulling all nearby creatures towards it. That makes it an ideal crowd-control spell, since Aloth can start combat by placing this in the path of oncoming enemies, keep them tied down around the vortex, and then blast away with his offensive spells. This can come in handy in very large scale fights, since even tanks like Eder can get overwhelmed by sheer numbers.
The other is Essential Phantom. It summons a duplicate of the Wizard, which can hit its enemies with Shocking damage at a distance.
Admeth's Den is the next destination.
