DARK TEMPLE
Brother Perdiem
Derrick now adds Haste on top of the usual preparations. There's a reason for this. As soon as the party goes in through the doorways, there will be several Priests of Ilmater, led by Brother Perdiem, who are apparently ensorcelled. The Priests themselves will be invulnerable to any harm. Also, there will be LOTS of undead, Greater Mummies, Zombies, and Greater Boneguards.
Ignore all of them, and look for a golden idol towards the northwest of the Temple. Keep your eye on this prize, for if you destroy the idol, all of the undead will fall, and the Priests will be freed. Brother Perdiem then explains things, and gives me the Badge of Brother Perdiem, the last Badge I need. He'll also offer healing services for free.
Notice that there's a stairway behind the idol, with 6 symbols just below it. With all 6 badges, click on all the symbols to open the stairway.
Revered Brother Poquelin
Ok, so Revered Brother Poquelin is obviously the bad guy we've been looking for. Things are not as straightforward as just beating him though. The fact of the matter is you have to beat him, then win a few fights afterwards, all of them without being able to rest for some time. So, the trick here is to beat him with a minimum of damage to my party members, and a minimum of expending any of my own resources, so that I can see myself through to when I can next rest. Easier said than done, as Poquelin will try hit the party with multiple Flame Strikes at once, then teleport backwards so that he can cast more spells. Meanwhile, numerous monsters of all kinds will be closing in on me from all sides.
There's a simple trick. Genevieve can hit for lots of damage, check. She has real good armor class, even allowing for her Ring of Reckless action, check. She can run fast with her Boots of Speed and thus close the gap on Poquelin in a hurry, check. There's only one thing missing, protection against the Flame Strike spells. So, before I go up the stairways, Cassandra casts a Protection from Fire spell on Genevieve. I then talk with Poquelin for a bit, and then start combat. Genevieve races ahead of everybody, and goes straight for Poquelin all by herself. The rest of the party hangs back to avoid combat altogether. Genevieve is able to weather the massive onslaught, stay on top of Poquelin, and then damage him enough to force a retreat.
Except ... it's a pretty unusual retreat that involves everybody teleporting and a Return to Easthaven.
