The Endless Queries

Endless Queries

  1. This Quest takes place entirely within the area of the White Void known as Endless Queries. You start off at the portal at #1.

  2. You'll encounter the Shackled Soul at #2. It will first appear as Iovarra, then Thaos, then as Maerwald, and then itself as a Wood Elf but with a darker complexion than Iovarra. Being a Priest of Skaen or making a Religion check of 10 will notice that she's wearing a broken blade, which is a symbol of Skaen.

You will gain a Trinket called Betrayal at the end of the encounter. This item will give you additional options while you are pursuing the Quest called Death's Depthless Dominion.

  3. Endless Queries TrialEach of the portals at #4, #5 and #7 lead to portals at #8, #9 and #12 respectively. However, the first time you enter any of the portals at #4, #5 or #7, you'll first participate in a trial between the Shackled Soul and the Soul of an Inquisitor.

The goal of each trial is to obtain a Mote of Conviction, Mote of Hostility or a Mote of Regret.

If you want to obtain the soul of Inquisitor Naxiva as an ally, then you will want to obtain one of each of the Motes. Obtaining more than one of the same kind of Mote will ultimately prevent you from gaining her soul as an ally. That won't rule out completing this Quest, but it will rule out having her as an ally when you confront Neriscyrlas during the Quest called Death's Depthless Dominion.

Participating as the accused and admitting guilt and accepting punishment is a reliable way to obtain a Mote of Regret.

Attacking the members of the court is always a reliable way of gaining a Mote of Hostility. There are a few dialogue options where it is possible to participate as a witness, and call the Inquisitor out for holding a kangaroo court to earn a Mote of Hostility, although those dialogue branches make it easier to earn a Mote of Conviction instead.

Participating as the Inquisitor and forcing sentence on the accused, or testifying as to the accused's guilt as a witness are reliable ways to obtain a Mote of Conviction.

You can participate as either the accused or the witness during the first trial. You can participate as any one of the accused, the witness, or the Inquisitor during the second trial. That means the first two trials are your best bet for obtaining a Mote of Regret.

You can participate as either the witness or the Inquisitor during the third trial. There will be dialogue options available that show an awareness that the Shackled Soul and the Inquisitor are different parts of the same soul. Dialogue options that try to alert them to that fact, and that the trials aren't real, tend to earn a Mote of Conviction.

  4. Once you have three Motes, whichever types you happen to get, give them to the Shackled Soul at #2. She'll now be free, and the portal at #14 will now be open.

  5. Go through that portal for the final encounter between the Shackled Soul and the Inquisitor, which are actually different parts of the soul. If you gave the Shackled Soul more than one type of the same kind of mote (e.g two Motes of Conviction), both and the Inquisitor and her allies will attack you.

If you had given the Shackled Soul one of each type of Mote, you can convince her to reconcile with the Inquisitor. That means only the Strangled souls and Wardens of Decay will attack you. The soul of Inquisitor Naxiva will appear. You will then have the option of having her join you as an ally against Neriscyrlas, have her join the trail of souls following you with the promise of an eventual return to the Wheel, or convince her to let herself dissolve completely in the White Void.

A portal will appear at the north end of where the last trial took place, which will return you directly to The Shattered Passage and mark completion of this Quest.
