Honor Among Thieves

    World Map

  1. This Quest starts when you return to the World Map for the first time after completing the Main Quest called He Waits In Fire. Captain Furrante wants to speak to you, and indicates that the Principi ruling council will be meeting in Dunnage.
  2. Balefire Beacon

  3. Go to Dunnage at #9 on the World Map. Go to the Balefire Beacon, and speak to Captain Furrante at #4.

The council of captains for the Principi has voted execution for Captain Aeldys as a traitor. The only thing stopping them from carrying out the sentence is that Aeldys knows the secret of finding the Floating Hangman. Furrante wants you to use your Watcher abilities to pry the secret from Aeldys.

The possibilities vary depending on whether you killed Benweth or spared him during the Blow the Man Down Quest.
  4. Benweth Killed

  5. If you killed Benweth, Aeldys will still have her power base intact, in Fort Deadlight at #4 on the World Map.

You could make your way to her Command Room, at #6 in the Fort Deadlight Donjon. At this point you can declare you allegiance to her instead and now side against Furrante. Or you can follow through and kill her and her minions. She'll leave behind the Sword called Hel's Beckoning. You can also use your Watcher powers to discover the oath needed to draw out Lucia Rivan and the Floating Hangman. Report back to Furrante to complete the Quest. He'll also reward you with Fleetbreaker if he had not previously done so.

  6. You can kill Furrante, either when he first speaks to you to start the Quest or if you decide to switch sides after speaking to Captain Aeldys. You'll be forced to kill numerous Principi in at least the Balefire Beacon, which will cause a substantial loss of reputation with the Principi. But in return you can loot Furrante's body for Furrante's Breastplate.

Alternatively, you can open the chest at #5 in the Balefire Beacon with either a Mechanics skill check of 13 or the Oiled Iron Key if you can pickpocket it from Furrante. The chest has A Letter from Director Castol, which proves Furrante's involvement with the slave trade. You can confront Furrante with the Letter, with the result that the rest of the Principi council will sentence him to death and hang him from atop the Balefire Tower. You won't be able to loot Furrante's Breastplate, but you can avoid losing any reputation with the Principi this way.

Aeldys will reward you with Scordeo's Edge, as well as the Blackblade Hood if she hadn't already given it to you as reward for the Quest called A Shrewd Proposition. She also shares with you the words of the oath that will summon the Floating Hangman.
  7. Benweth Still Alive

  8. Begin by speaking to Captain Furrante. The conversation is pretty much same. A key difference is that Benweth lets on that he betrayed Aeldys and had a hand in capturing her. Furrante also indicates that Aeldys is being interrogated and tortured in the Tower above.

Also, you can speak to him a second time. The second time you can broach the subject of letting Aeldys go out on her own terms by taking "Clussa's Voyage" in exchange for voluntarily giving up what she knows. Furrante won't agree right away. It takes an Intellect check of 16 or an Insight check of 12 to convince him.

  9. You can at this point also expose Captain Furrante with A Letter from Director Castol as described above, and get him hanged. That leads to Captain Aeldys getting freed, and she becomes your ally on behalf of the Principi from this point onwards.

  10. The stairs at #3 lead to the Balefire Tower at #1.
  11. Balefire Tower

  12. Aeldys CaptiveAeldys will be tied to the stake at #2. The Guard torturing her will not welcome your presence initially. Informing her that Furrante sent you to get answers from Aeldys will convince the guard to stand down. The Intimidate check of 10 won't, and will cause all the Principi except Aeldys to attack you.

  13. There are multiple ways to handle things if the Guards let you speak to Aeldys. One way is to just kill her then and there, and then read her soul to learn the oath. You can't get Hel's Beckoning from her if you kill her here. You can then relate what you know to Furrante to complete Quest.

  14. Another way is to go back downstairs and tell Furrante to have her hanged. He'll gladly have her hung from the plank at #3. You'll both go downstairs, you'll tell him what you know, and then he recites the Darcozzi Oath that you need to complete the Quest.

  15. Another way is to convince her to give up her information voluntarily in exchange for taking "Clussa's Voyage", either with an Insight check of 7 or insisting that the world is in danger from Eothas followed by a dialogue option based on having 2 points of positive reputation with the Principi. Go back downstairs and Furrante will accept the terms without hesitation. You can do this whether or not you had previously convinced Furrante to extend the offer. She'll be forced to take "Clussa's Voyage" after indicating to Furrante that the Darcozzi oath is needed, and he'll force her to take Clussa's Voyage to conclude the Quest.

  16. Any of the options that leave Furrante in charge of the Principi will result in him rewarding you with Fleetbreaker if he had not previously done so.

  17. You can instead free her, forcing you to fight the Principi in the Tower and those in the Beacon below. Aeldys will take over as the new leader of the Principi, and become your ally. You can loot Furrante's Breastplate from his body. And Aeldys will reward you with Scordeo's Edge, as well as the Blackblade Hood if she hadn't already given it to you as reward for the Quest called A Shrewd Proposition. She also shares with you the words of the oath that will summon the Floating Hangman.
  18. Scorched Earth

  19. You could of course just kill both Aeldys and Furrante. You'll have to force-attack the captain whose allegiance you last swore to if this is your preference. The upside is that you'll gain both Furrante's Breastplate and Hel's Beckoning. The downside is massive loss of reputation with the Principi, failing this Quest as well as A Dance With Death, and the Principi no longer available as an ally for purposes of the Main Quest called The Coming Storm.

Two-Eyed Pim becomes One-Eyed Pim and the leader of the Principi for purposes of the epilogue for the game.
