Why She's Included and How to Use Effectively
Imoen may well provide a good thief for the entire game, but the way to get the most out of her is to dual-class her into a Mage. The only thief skills that you truly need are Find/Remove Traps and Open Locks. Sure backstabbing can be nice, but there are plenty of other ways to win a battle. Sure theres pickpocketing, but then theres plenty of potions out there that can help. Scouting will be done by Kivan. I advance her four levels, enough to get her Find/Remove Traps and Open Locks into the 80-90 neighbourhood. In the event any of her thief skills are lacking for a particular situation she can use one of the potions she will stack along the way.
Once she reaches fourth level, I dual-class her into a Conjurer. The only spells she wont be able to cast are from the Divination school, which arent all that useful anyway. Once she reaches fifth level as a mage Ill have a sweet two-for-one deal, a character who can torch monsters with spells at a distance, fire bolts at them with her crossbow, and disarm all of the traps.
