Why She's Included and How to Use Effectively
She works as a secondary healer and also as a decent fighter who can hold her own in combat. She's also included for story reasons as she will become Avastrian's love interest.
Jaheira is much-maligned in both BG1 and BG2 as a useless NPC. In my opinion this is because her detractors have not taken the time to learn how to use her properly. Even in BG1 she proves a useful NPC with decent fighting ability and some extra healing power.
Jaheira can use any armor, which makes her an improvement over the usual Druid. The real problem is finding a suitable weapon for her. There arent any magical clubs out there. She wont be able to find a good magical scimitar until much too late in the game. Sure theres staves, but Id rather she use a shield as well.
The answer is the Dagger of Venom +2. Every time it strikes the monster must save vs. death or suffer 6 points of damage per round to a maximum of 15. In the early phases of the game shell only be able to attack once with it each round, yet this is usually enough. When she reaches the 6th and 7th levels shell really come into her own when she attacks with the Dagger multiple times. In EasyTutu, with the BG1 NPC Projects mod installed, she'll also be able to use the Boomerang Dagger +2.
As for her spellcasting dont worry about offensive spells like Call Lightning, which are practically useless. Emphasize healing spells (Cure Light Wounds, Slow Poison) and defensive spells (Remove Fear, Bless). Also include Animal Summoning spells when you have room for it. Entangle will also be very useful on low level monsters, when you can safely pick them off with missile weapons.
When she reaches 7th level shell be able to cast Defensive Harmony. Though it lasts for only six rounds it also has a very fast casting time. When Jaheira casts Defensive Harmony on top of the Protection from Evil 10' Radius cast by the Cleric, the effect can be tremendous.
