The Shattered Passage

Outcrop on High

*Evil* Toasting the Dead

The evil party goes from #11 to #1 on the map of the Outcrop on High. I expend a Rope and Grappling Hook to create a permanent pathway between the Outcrop and Harbinger's Watch, to which I now descend.

Harbinger's Watch

Zarathos returns to Nyrvardir with the Rime Construct Fluid, and chooses the dialogue option of "here you go".

Nyrvardir rewards him with 2,500+ xp, and a ring called Finality's Claim, but nothing else.

Nyrvardir will have a nearby Harbinger sample the new concoction, who promptly falls over dead from poisoning. Nyrvardir won't be bothered by that fact and the Task will conclude.

Serafen will get the ring, but not just yet.

Toasting the Dead

Choosing the "not so fast" dialogue option opens up more possibilities. You can follow up "not so fast" by insisting on a discussion of compensation. He'll offer either 4,000cp or Finality's Claim, but not both. You can accept one or the other with dialogue options that do not involve skill checks. A Diplomacy check of 14 means increasing the fee to 8,000cp but no Finality's Claim. A Diplomacy check of 16 will get you both the 4,000cp and Finality's Claim.

Accepting one of the offers of compensation means an additional choice afterwards. You can give him the Fluid as part of the deal, and again a nearby Harbinger will end up poisoning himself. Or you can choose a Shady dialogue option that destroys the fluid. That causes Nyrvardir to attack you, although the rest of the villagers will remain friendly. You can follow up with a warning that the Fluid is toxic. And from there you go ahead and give him the Fluid anyway, which plays out the same as if you had given it to him right away.

Alliria follows up "not so fast" with a warning about the Fluid being toxic. But Nyrvardir wants it anyway. So she chooses a Benevolent option that destroys the fluid. That will leave her with only the xp reward, and no material reward from Nyrvardir himself. Now I go to the house in the southwest corner with doors at points marked #3.

The Higher-Ups

Alliria speaks to Harbinger Brythe, and informs her of the slaughter of the Pilgrims on the Outcrop on High. I get 3,500cp and 2,500+ xp as rewards for completing the Task called The Higher-Ups.

But Brythe is distraught. Pressing her with questions reveals that she's worried that her sister, Ehrys, may now be among the dead. This conversation starts The Last Pilgrimage Quest. And it turns out that Ydwin doesn't have a very high opinion of Brythe.

Alliria takes Righteous Soul on her 18th level-up. It completely immunizes her against diseases and poisons, which can come in handy during some battles.

I leave and climb back up the rope at #4 to return to the Outcrop on High.

Outcrop on High

And I go northeast from #1 on the map of the Outcrop on High. I climb down the rope at #11 to return to the Rimebound Temple.

Rimebound Temple

*Evil* Ehrys

The evil party goes from #1 on the map of the Rimebound Temple, and then goes through the entrance at #3.

Eastern Cavern

The evil party is then at #1 on the map of the Eastern Cavern. Ehrys will be at #3. She wants to weld her soul to a nearby Rime Construct so that she can become an immortal (although mindless) guardian for Rymrgand. Zarathos uses his powers to help that along. Ehyrs would have used her new body to open the door at #4 and station herself at #6 had it not been previously opened. Rime Construct Fluid can be looted from her old body, which may help with the Toasting the Dead Task if you had not finished it previously.

I continue south and through the exit at #12.

That brings me to #7 on the map of the Rimebound Temple. I go through the door at #6.

Temple of Decline

That brings me to #5 on the map of the Temple of Decline. I can now go through the Vytmadh at #7 with the Eye of Rymrgand in my possession.

Ehrys

Alliria instead resolves to convince Ehrys to abandon her idea of gaining a new body, and instead reunite with her sister. She starts with a dialogue option that combines the Mystic background with a Religion check of 8. Alternatives that would have worked included an Insight check of 10, or the Laborer or Dissident background.

That only gets her partway though. She follows up with a dialogue option that combines the Mystic background with a Religion check of 15. A Diplomacy check of 14 would have worked too. Ehrys then leaves to seek out Brythe in Harbinger's Watch.

The Shattered Passage

*Evil* Neriscyrlas in the Void

The evil party starts off at #1 on the map of The Shattered Passage. To simply arrive at this point concludes the Quest called To Rise and Decline, with 6,000+ xp as a reward. It also starts the Quest called Death's Depthless Dominion. They go on ahead and defeat a Scourge and a Soul Collector at #2.

I go on ahead to #3, and witness Neriscyrlas temporarily destroy the soul of the frozen elf in combat. Zarathos speaks at length with Neriscyrlas before she plunges further into the Void.

Xoti takes Improved Critical on her 18th level-up. She still sometimes attacks in between castings of Salvation of Time.

Rynhaedr's Soul

Now I go around to spots marked #4 on the map of The Shattered Passage, which have Wandering Souls. Getting all four of them reconstitutes the soul of the Elven warrior named Rynhaedr, who will now hover around the center at #3. The process progresses the Quest called Death's Depthless Dominion.

I speak to her at length, and she provides a lot of backstory of Neriscyrlas' past attempt to raid the Temple that has led to her present state, as well as realms maintained by lingering souls that adjoin The Shattered Passage.

Reconstituting Rynhaedr's soul also completes one of the upgrades for the Guardian's Plate. That upgrade is a power called Entropy Guard. It increases Armor Rating by +2, and Freezing Armor Rating by +2 for 15 seconds, but at the cost of being Immobilized for the same duration. It's a once per Rest power, so I really have no use for it. But it's a stepping stone to the last upgrade.

I make my way to the portal at #7, which takes me to The Bridge Ablaze.
