The Bridge Ablaze
Waidwen's Sundial
I start off at #10 on the map of The Bridge Ablaze, Moment Of. Arriving here starts The Bridge Ablaze Quest.
I go to #4, and witness St. Waiden marching with his forces across the bridge. Clicking on him means the Godhammer goes off. That event teleports the party to #1 on the map of The Bridge Ablaze, Moment After.
*Note* Coming back after that first time means Waidwen will stay frozen, but shows an awareness that his soul is trapped in the memories of his death.
I will have to fight several Burning spirits on arrival the first time around. The Burning Soldiers are tanks, relatively hard to kill but aren't particularly dangerous on their own. There will be about three Burning Clerics, who can be a nuisance by casting spells like Restore and Consecrated Ground and Barring Death's Door. They can also hit hard with Storms of Holy Fire. The real danger are the five Burning Archers, three on the left and two on the right. They can use Rogue attacks with their bows to nail single targets with massive Damage.
I have Eder go a little left. He will lock down and Engage multiple enemies that approach him. And remember that Guardian Stance will raise his Damage Reduction even further when he Engages multiple enemies. The activates The Wall Modal for his Large Shield, and that reduces even further any Damage from missile weapons from the Burning Archers. That Immobilizes him, but that is of no concern because he's doing exactly what I want him to do and where I want him to do it. He thereby neutralizes the majority of the enemy forces by himself.
The rest of the party retreats east. Pallegina periodically summons Ogres every four Phrases to provide alternative targets, and take some of the heat off of Eder. She and the rest of the party take down the two Burning Archers on the east side one by one.
I do have to use healing resources like Greater Lay on Hands and White Flames once in a while. But I continue and wear down the remaining Burning Archers. Getting rid of them is pretty much the turning point to victory. Then it's a matter of taking out the Burning Clerics, and finally the Burning Soldiers.
I get a couple of items needed for The Bridge Ablaze Quest. One is a Trinket called Waidwen's Sundial, which I get directly from Waidwen on your arrival at #1. This item can also be helpful in other areas of the game, like The Shattered Passage and The Endless Queries.
The other is the Evon Dewr Tower Key, which I get from the dead bodies of the Burning spirits.
Eothas speaks to Alliria afterwards, and advise her that she can use the Sundial to transport through different moments surrounding the explosion of the Godhammer and then piece Waidwen's soul back together.
One Dozen Stood
There's a very narrow pathway just to the southwest. It continues southwest and then bends northwest.
I follow it until I click on a soldier falling down at #4, and obtain a Plate Armor called One Dozen Stood. The good party will hold onto it for Rekke.
I follow the path to its end at #5, and find one of the soul fragments of Waidwen that you'll need.
I return the way I came and then go through the Void Gate at #6 to arrive at the Void Gate at #7. Now I use Waidwen's Sundial at the beam of light portal at #8 and choose "Noon" to arrive in The Bridge Ablaze, Moment Of at #1.
Mirke disarms a trap a little to the left. I click on #2 of the map of The Bridge Ablaze, Moment Of to obtain another of the fragments of Waidwen's soul that I'll need.
Now I use Waidwen's Sundial at the beam of light portal at #3 and choose "Dawn" to arrive in The Bridge Ablaze, Moment Before at #7.
The Godhammer
I speak to the Magranite Priestess at #6 and learn a few things from her. The Godhammer contains a piece of Waidwen's soul. She has also forgotten the spell needed to conceal the Godhammer, and you won't be able to help her remember it, at least for now.
The door at #7 leads to the door that now appears at #8.
There will now be a door at #9, which I open with the Evon Dewr Tower Key. It leads to #10.
I take the Memory of Magranite Incantations from a barrel at #11.
Now return to the Priestess at #6 and give her the Memory of Magranite Incantations. The Godhammer itself will now be revealed at #12.
There are a few options for disarming the Godhammer if that's what you want to do.
A Priest of Magran can disarm it, as can a Sleight of Hand check of 15. If you obtained Betrayal from
the The Endless Queries, you can pretend to be Durance to the Priestess and convince her to reveal the schematics of the Godhammer. I disarm it with an Explosives check of 17, helped along by Aloth specializing in Explosives.
Disarming the bomb means obtaining another fragment of Waidwen's soul that I need, as well as a Trinket called the Detonator Shard.
Now I go back up the door at #7 and to #8. I then use the "Noon" option at the beam of light port at #4, which brings me to #4 on the map of The Bridge Ablaze, Moment Of.
*Evil* The Godhammer
Zarathos simply detonates the Godhammer. Doing so will mean he can still obtain the piece of Waidwen's soul but not right away, and he won't get the Detonator Shard.
What happens is the evil party will be brought to the beam of light portal at #8 in The Bridge Ablaze, Moment After. Zarathos now gets the Soul Fragment at #9.
The evil party then goes through the portal at #7 to reach the portal at #6. Zarathos then uses Waidwen's Sundial and the "Noon" option at the beam of light portal at #2. That brings the evil party to #4 on the map of The Bridge Ablaze, Moment Of.
Waidwen's Soul
I "Wait" until the next evening, and Aloth switches over to Jernaugh's Careful Calamities.
Now I go west and partway down the sloping rampart. I stop halfway and I'll first have to fight a pair of Soul Collectors, a Warden of Decay, and several Burning Spirits at #7. I use the sloping rampart as a bottleneck. Aloth sets up his crowd-control spells. The Burning Spirits have low Freezing Armor Rating so Alliria spams Ninagauth's Shadowflames while Mirke spams Stunning Surges. Eder places himself ahead of the rest of the party, and absorbs the onslaught. And again The Wall helps him absorb the missile fire from the Burning Archers with little risk.
Eder takes Uncanny Luck on his 18th level-up. The 5% chance to avoid any Attack will help his tanking role a little bit. The 5% chance to convert a Hit to a Critical Hit is sugar on top.
I use the same crowd-control and bombardment tactics for a group of Shambled Souls at #8.
I next use Waidwen's Sundial at the beam of light portal at #9 and choose "Dusk" to arrive in The Bridge Ablaze, Moment After at #11.
I have to fight a lot of Burning spirits at #13. A Burning Archer and a Burning Spirit will approach the party from behind, so I can't truly set up a bottleneck the way that I did for the previous two fights. I send Eder ahead down the stairs to absorb the onslaught on the majority of the spirits, with The Wall activated once he's in position. He does need to drink a Healing Potion or receive a Greater Lay on Hands from Pallegina once in a while. The rest of the party goes to work on the Archer and Soldier who approach from behind.
Several of the spirits start to wrap around and surround Eder, which means I'll never get the chance to set up the crowd-control bottleneck. That means I've gotta do it the long and hard way, one at a time. Pallegina periodically summons her Ogres, which score Bludgeoning Damage with their attacks. I eventually wear everything down.
I go southeast along a narrow trail and grab the last of Waidwen's soul fragments at #14.
I go back to the beam of light portal at #11, and use the "Dawn" option to return to The Bridge Ablaze, Moment Before at #2.
The Bridge Ablaze
I go east and click on Waidwen at #3 to restore him. Note that there are other versions of Waidwen at similar points in the Moment Of (at #4) and the Moment After, but Waidwen's body will be too broken in those areas to be of any help.
It is only the Waidwen here at #3 in the Moment Before that you can use your fragments to restore him.
Speaking to him completes the Quest called The Bridge Ablaze, along with an 8,000xp bonus. I could let him dissolve into the White Void. But Alliria and Eder together convince Waidwen to join them as they pursue Eothas. So he joins the trail of souls that follow her.
*Evil* The Bridge Ablaze
Zarathos goes with dialogue options that suggest that Waidwen didn't properly learn the lesson from the Godhammer and the war, which suffices to convince Waidwen to render his aid in the coming fight against Neriscyrlas.
I return west and use the Salvaton of Time-Ancestor's Memory loop, combined with Barring Death's Door on multiple party members, to outlast the enemies. Mirke takes Tough on her 18th level-up. More Health is always a good thing for a dedicated tank.
My next destination is The Endless Queries.
