Missing Personnel

Sa'Sani has a new quest for me, to find out what happened to the missing Captain Lastri. She hints that the Captain's abductors area probably close to the Ship Wreck.

I travel south and past the Ship Wreck on the Overland Map. I fight a few Skeletons along the way. They often leave behind Demihuman Skulls that can be sold.

The lair of the Stone Knives Tribe can be found at #23 on the Overland Map.

Stone Knives Tribe

I start off at #1 on the lair map. I soon have to fight some Stone Knives Warriors, who are actually pretty tough. I manage to prevail in a close battle.

At #2 is a crate that has a Shortbow, 99 Arrows +1, a Kama +1, and the Onyx Spear (+1d6 massive critical damage, keen). Janette equips the spear as an interim weapon. I sell the Shortbow and Kama, but keep the arrows for Umoja's use later on.

At #3 will be Chieftain Zhechrrog, along with a Stone Knives Matron, a Stone Knives Elder, and several Stone Knives Youths. If I were to kill them, the loot would include a Ring of Protection +1, a Leather Armor +1, a Dagger +1, and the Shard of the Samarlogh (Dagger +1, bonus bludgeoning damage, +1d4 positive energy damage). I would get less experience for it.

I prefer to use Diplomacy to get the tribe to leave willingly. I get 750xp, the key to Lastri's cage. A nearby crate has several Keeping Reeds arrows (Deafness DC=18 / 3 rounds) and a Bastard Sword +1. I open the cage and Lastri leaves on her own. I suppose I could have grabbed the loot with the realization that there is unlimited xp available through Overland encounters. However, I figure the loot will eventually get overtaken by other items, and I want to reach the highest levels sooner rather than later.

I return outside and rest up. Sa'Sani rewards me with 1,000xp and 2,000gp once I return to Samargol.

Seeking the Truth

Sa'Sani has a new quest for me. She wants me to find Lauire, and bring him back as a possible suspect for sabotaging The Vigilant. I won't be be able to complete this quest for a long while yet though.

Meanwhile, I add a +1 enhancement bonus to Logan's Falchion, and to Gallard's Daggers.

7th Level

I'm pretty close to 21,000xp for my main party members, so now I grind it out until I get them to the 7th level of experience.

Umoja's 7th Level

Now I do some more xp hunting. The first fight in the video involves me grabbing the chance to fight some Giant Spiders. I collect the Giant Spider Venom Sacs, and I now have a total of 9 (some of them from a previous fight), which is enough for one of the upcoming bounty quests.

The video concludes with me killing off a bunch of Gnolls, and getting enough xp to get Umoja to his 7th level.

Unaccounted For

Lastri will now be in the Leira's Mist Tavern. She gives me a quest to find her Second Mate, Nerul. I also get a Batiri Keystone in my inventory.

I make my way towards the Ship Wreck yet again. I kill a few Lizardfolk along the way.

Remember the cave opening with a slab of stone over it that I couldn't open previously? Here's where I use the Batiri Keystone to open up the entrance.

Chieftain Taelunangal

Umoja buffs up Gallard, Janette, Logan, and his own pet, Yushai, with Barkskin spells. Vandala buffs herself up with the Dark One's Own Luck.

I enter the cave, whereupon Gallard and Janette race up and put themselves first against a Trained Deinonychus. Other party members take their shots from behind. The Deinonychus leaves behind another Dinosaur Tooth, so I'll have enough for a bounty quest.

There are numerous Batiri scattered throughout the cave. I always follow the theme of letting Gallard stick his neck out to hold up the onslaught, and letting the other party members charge in afterwards. Vandala now begins to crank out the Draining Blast / Eldritch Blast attack over and over again. All of the Batiri, including Chieftain Taelunangal, fall once all is said and done.

I conclude the video by looting the cave. Several Crates have Ores which I collect. The Chieftain herself leaves behind the Jungle Headdress (+3 Survival), which Umoja wears for now.

Second Mate Nerul

I speak with the old guy who was being held prisoner by the Batiri. Second Mate Nerul makes his own way out.

I return to Samargol and speak with Lastri inside Leira's Trick. I get rewarded with 1,000xp. Lastri now becomes a joinable companion. But I'm not interested. My development for Gallard represents a much more efficient path to the kind of character build I have in mind for a Swashbuckler-type.

Next up is collecting a few bounties for Kwesi.
