Taruin
Discovery of Taruin
I make my way towards #9 on the Overland Map, which is the town of Taruin. I kill plenty of monsters along the way.
I have 10 Ores, and thus have reached my maximum Cargo Capacity of 10. I open the trade option with the 10, allowing me to sell off all 10 Ores for 8 trade bars each. *Note* Keep all your trade bars at this point, DO NOT sell them. They'll come in handy not just for Osi's quest, but also for when you need to set up a merchant company in Act II.
Trading with Taruin
Remember those crates I found north of the bridge from Samargol but couldn't collect because I reached my maximum Cargo Capacity? Well now I go get them. They include Timber and Skins. Plenty more fights along the way as well.
I then trade them to Taruin as well, and reach 104 trade bars. That's three more than what are needed to complete The Lady's Apprentice quest for Osi Tchaluka.
Wraith Crypt
The party begins to travel east. I grab the opportunity to run down and kill some Clockroaches. I can use the Clockroach Parts they leave behind to fulfill a quest that will come up later on.
East at #10 is a crypt. Once inside, I buff up, Barkskins, Bear's Endurance spells, Dark One's Own Luck, etc. One sarcophagus holds a Chainshirt +1, a Noble's Cap (+1 Charisma), a Rod of Frost, and some gems. Umoja wears the Chainshirt +1. I suppose I could have had Vandala waer the Cap, but I figure she'll be wearing a Cloak of Charisma soon enough.
The other sarcophagus is trapped, so Gallard disarms it. I loot it for a Scimitar +2 (which nobody will use), a Ring of Insight (+5 Lore) which Vandala will wear for now, and some more gems.
That's when some Wraiths will attack. The Wraiths present a very real danger of permanently killing a character by draining his or her Constitution enough times. I play it safe by having Umoja use both of his Call Lightning spells while the rest of the party goes to work. One of the Wraiths leaves behind Shadow Dust.
Firenewt Sorcerer
Northeast will be a cave. Inside the cave will be several Firenewts and a few Fire Elementals. The Firenewts aren't all that difficult, but keep an eye open for the Firenewt Sorcerer. Once he shows up, make a beeline for him and take him down first and foremost. His chief danger is that he can use spells like Fireball repeatedly and with abandon, since the other Firenewts and Fire Elementals are immune to fire damage. The cave itself doesn't have much in the way of loot.
There's an abandoned wagon on the way back to Taruin that's revealed by a Search check. I get a Timber from it. I trade in the Timber for 4 Trade Bars once I return to Taruin.
The Finest Wine
Now I enter the common room of the tavern in Taruin, the Serpent's Demise. Inside is a Halfling named Ottelmar. He wants me to find a Bottle of Deep Wine for him from the Underdark Black Market.
The Underdark Black Market is at #3 on the Overland Map.
At #3 on the Black Market map will be a Mind Flayer named Zhiir. He initially wants 5,000gp for the Bottle of Deep Wine. However, either an Appraise check or a Lore check can knock the price down to 2,500gp.
For anyone who's interested, you can also buy a Bag of Holding from Zhiir from another Mind Flayer named Xorill, who's at #4 on the Underdark Black Market map. I didn't, because a lot of what I'm carrying doesn't actually weigh me down, and what does I either equip or quickly sell off.
I bring the Bottle to Ottelmar in the Serpent's Demise, and get 600xp and 5,500gp for my troubles.
Trade Bars for Osi
I return to Samargol again, fighting a few Zombies along the way. Zombies take a long time to reach me, so Vandala can get in a few free Eldritch Chains before they finally close in.
I speak to Osi again. I give him 101 Trade Bars, and not a single one more. That suffices to get me 700xp as a reward. I speak to him again, and he gives me a Ring of Minor Fire Resistance (+10 resistance) which Gallard wears for now. Logan will wear the Ring of Fortitude +1 for now.
I've now raised quite a bit of cash, including through sales of any excess loot I found, so I pay another visit to the merchant Irim Mendar. I purchase the Watchman's Helm (blue light, +8 Listen, +8 Search, +8 Spot) for Umoja, which will be his helmet for the rest of the game. I sometimes have Umoja be the lead character during Overland Map travel. His Listen and Spot skills help him spot monsters at a greater distance. Spot will also help him find some caches on the Overland Map. A helmet that raises those skills is most certainly welcome. I sell off the Jungle Headdress.
9th Level
And here is where most of the party members reach their 9th level of experience.
Now it is time for me to complete a quest near the town of Rassatan.
