Nimbre
Discovery of Nimbre
I head due east from Samargol. At #8 is the town of Nimbre. I get 100xp for making the discovery.
Agents of the Serpentfolk
Now I enter the town of Nimbre. Several Samarach Soldiers, led by their Captain, have herded the villagers into the middle on suspicion of collaborating with the Yuan-ti. One option is to let the Soldiers lead the villagers away. The second option is to slaughter the Soldiers.
There's a third and best way, but it's broken. The fix for the quest is available at this link. To choose the third way, simply ignore the Soldiers or choose the "Farewell" dialogue option when speaking to them.
A little ahead and to the left will be the Loremaster's House. Once inside, I buff up to the max. Bark Skins for everyone. Janette casts Bull's Strength on herself and Logan and Yushai. She also casts Bear's Endurance on herself and Gallard. Umoja also casts Stoneskin on himself and Greater Fang on Yushai.
I then speak to the Loremaster. A successful Spot check by Umoja reveals that the Loremaster is in fact the Yuan-ti collaborator. That was the point behind the fix. Before the fix, the Spot DC was at 100, impossible. The DC gets reduced to 10 after the check.
The Loremaster and two Snaketongue Cultists will attack. I easily take them out in physical combat. One of the Cultists leaves behind a Cloak of Fortification +1, which Janette wears. Another Cultist leaves behind Boots of Reflexes +2, which Gallard wears.
The Loremaster leaves behind:
Boar Farm
At the east end of Nimbre will be a pig farm. Speaking with the Inquisitive Pig will reveal a Dirt Mound that has a Periapt of Wisdom +2.
I could make an Intimidate or a Sleight of Hand check to get the Periapt without the nearby Boars attacking me. But I'd just as soon get the Periapt and get the Boars to attack, so that I can collect a little more xp and some more Boar Teeth.
Umoja wears the Periapt, as it will boost both his Druidic spellcasting and his archery, in conjunction with the Zen Archery feat.
Korath Embersmith
A Fire Giant named Korath Embersmith appears (randomly) on the Overland Map after I leave Nimbre. I could kill him and get about 5,500gp.
However, I would rather make either a Diplomacy check or an Intimidation check to get him to leave voluntarily, and get 1,000xp for it. The check DC is significant, so you may have to advance your party a few levels first before you attempt the skill check.
Samarach Soldiers
Now also appearing on the Overland Map will be a group of Samarach Soldiers. I could bribe them to go away. If you do want to fight them, I'd recommend waiting until about 10th level or so. Don't worry, once any of these special encounters appears on the Overland Map, they'll stay where they appeared until you feel you're ready for them.
I have Umoja get in first blow with an Ice Storm spell. I then have the party rush in. Umoja positions himself for a Call Lightning spell, after which most of the Soldiers will have died outright and the rest get mopped up easily.
The Samarach Captain leaves behind a Greatsword +1, but I don't have any use for it.
Ogre Cave
I go on ahead east to the cave at #7. Inside the cave itself will be several Ogres who attack all at once. Gallard sticks his neck out first, with Janette and Logan bringing in the cavalry. Umoja carefully positions himself to catch as many of them as he can with a Call Lightning spell.
There will also be three Goblin Archers to the left, but they're not any real threat.
A trapped chest in the cave has a Kama +1.
Next up is a quest involving a couple of Mines.
