Travel to #14 on the map of The
Gullet. You will witness Overseer Hitenga ordering that Botaro be
lowered down the nearby pit, and despite Biha's protests.
You can speak to Hitenga for some background information on why Botaro
was sentenced to apparent death afterwards. He'll also indicate that
Biha will now be in her house at #5.
Speak to Biha in her house. She will explain that Botaro attempted to
secure passage on a ship to Ruautai for her and her family. But he got
arrested by the Maturu guards when he saw a Ruautai captain named Seduzo
in The Hole, and then got lowered into the pit, which is actually Old
City.
The Task becomes one of looking for Botaro in Old City, and securing
passage for Biha's family. She also mentions that Botaro had gold on his
person that was intended to buy passage.
Speak to Overseer Hitenga, as he can provide permission to enter Old
City. A Survival check of 5, a History check of 3, or 200cp will suffice
to convince him.
Keep in mind
that the lift will disappear after half a day. If you take too long, you
can only get back to the city aboveground through the Undercroft.
Go south down the stairs, and then quickly west across the green water.
Your characters will become Sickened if they stay too long in the water.
You'll have to fight several Guls, Darguls and Putrid Rotghasts at #2.
You'll be able to interact with the soul of the now-dead Botaro. He'll
indicate that he deliberately pocketed money from a crime lord named
Dereo that was meant for something else, in order to buy passage for
Biha and her family. Overseer Hitenga also caught him with a marked coin
from Dereo, which led to his being condemned to Old City.
The money that Botaro took can be found in a hidden niche at #10 on
the map of The Gullet. It will be easier to find after having interacted
with his soul.
You can go back to Biha at this point if you want to, but it isn't
necessary to complte the Task. Offering her the 600cp will result in a
minor gain of reputation with The Gullet, as will informing her of
Botaro's fate.
If you like, you can also pickpocket Overseer Hitenga for the Marked
Suole. It is not necessary for purposes of completing the Task.
However, if you like, you can take it to the Narrows at #4 on the map of
The Gullet. Go right, right and left during the scripted interaction.
The guards will try to stop you. Showing them the Marked
Suole will convince them to let you past without a struggle.
Dereo the Lean will be on the other side. He by the way also offers The Cornett's Call quest.
You can offer him the 600cp and earn Honest disposition at the same
time. Doing so will earn positive reputation with the Delver's Row
Criminals, and Dereo lets you keep the 600cp.
The entrance to The Hole is at #11 on the map of The Gullet. You'll
start at #1 on the map of the main
floor of The Hole.
Seduzo will be at #3. She'll explain that she called the guards on
Botaro because she was skeptical that he could afford passage, and
because the Marked Suole
he showed her made her afraid of crossing the Principi.
The simplest way to gain passage for Biha and at least two of her
children is to pay her 300cp.
You can also coerce her into providing passage for free by threatening
to expose her to the Royal Deadfire Company for conducting unsanctioned
business in The Gullet. Options include:
Threatening to have Maia
write a report to the Company, if she's in the party when you speak
to Seduzo.
Making a Streetwise check of 4
Making an Insight check of 3
Making a History check of 2
Suggesting that Biha and her family could benefit from exposure to Rauatai culture will also secure free passage.
Note that Seduzo refuses to provide passage for more than three.
However, she also mentions that the remaining berths are reserved for
Goldpact Knights led by Orron. So the issue is whether you're willing to
go back to Biha now having only secured passage for three, or whether
you can find a way to convince Orron and his Knights to give up their
berths.
You could go back and speak to Biha now. She will be obviously less
than happy at only being able to take three. However, there is a
dialogue option that indicates a willingness to speak to Sedoku again.
If you want to complete the Task now, you can tell her to leave the
youngest behind, leave the oldest behind, or leave it to her decision.
The last choice will gain approval with Aloth
since it respects her Autonomy.
Orron and his Goldpact Knights will be at #4 on the map of the upper
floor. There's three possible options for freeing their ship berths:
Pay him 1,200cp to give up his berths voluntarily.
Make an Intellect check of 14 to convince him that travelling with
children on board will be highly inconvenient for him. Maia
will appreciate it as a Resourceful reply.
Choose to move one of his cups to earn Clever disposition, which
will earn collective gasps from the Knights for your audacity. At
this point you still have the option to choose a different course of
action. But now you can bowl over his cups completely to earn Cruel
disposition and provoke him and his Knights into attacking you.
You can speak to Sedozu again to confirm that she'll reserve all six
berths on the ship for Biha and her family.
You can now complete the Task in the most favorable terms by giving
Biha the good news. She'll leave with her family, and you'll get a major
gain in reputation with The Gullet.
