The Narrows are at #4 on the map of The
Gullet. Clicking on it begins a scripted interaction whereby you
can end at different destinations depending on what paths you take
through the tunnels. To reach Dereo's Lair, go Right, Right and Left.
His guards will try to stop you at the door. Options include:
Killing them, which costs you reputation with the Delver's Row
Criminals. But Dereo is still willing to entreat with you.
If you gain at least one point of positive reputation with The
Gullet, a messenger comes and informs you that Dereo would like to
speak to you. You may then indicate that Dereo sent a message to you
to have the guards let you through without a fight.
If you showed The Envoy's
Badge to Ernezzo at #7 in Delver's
Row, you can ask Ernezzo how to find Dereo. You can then
indicate to the guards that Ernezzo sent you.
Dereo would like you to obtain an item called the Cornett of Waves from
a merchant named Takano, who resides in his estate in Serpent's Crown.
He also mentions off-hand another item called the Cornett of Depths.
You could steal Takano's
Key from the chest at #4, and then lift the Cornett
of Waves out of the chest at #3 after using the Key to open
it.
You can use your Watcher powers to read his soul to realize that
he covets more material wealth. You can then pay him 2,500cp, or
2,150cp if you make a Bluff check of 3.
Make a Bluff check of 5 to start by saying you're on a mission
from the palace. Follow it up with a payment of 500cp, a History
check of 7, or a Diplomacy check of 5.
Threaten him into giving it up with an Intimidate check of 6.
You'll have to fight him and his guards if you fail the check.
Starting by asking him why the Cornett
of Waves is so special, followed by a History check of 1
combined with the Watcher either being Island Aumau or having the
Deadfire Archipelago background, or making either an Arcana check of
5 or a Religion check of 5. Follow that up with telling him the Cornett of Waves
deserves a better keep. And follow that up with either a Religion
check of 3 or a 750cp payment.
The Watcher being a Moon Godlike will be enough by itself to
convince him to hand over the Cornett
of Waves without any fuss.
You could also go to Rust at #3 in Delver's
Row to get it for you. You'll have to pay Rust 800cp, or
1,000cp if you want to have Takano left alive, to get the Cornett
of Waves for you and then wait time out for a day.
Travelling to or from Serpent's
Crown with the Cornett
of Waves in your possession will result in an encounter with a
band led by Ateira, who was originally hired by Dereo to find it. You
can dissuade her against a fight with the following options:
A Diplomacy check of 4, followed by a second Diplomacy check of 6,
followed by either a Bluff check of 3 or a dialogue option based on
having 2 points of Rational disposition.
An Intimidate check of 4 followed by an Intimidate check of 6.
Note that the first check will fail if the Watcher has 4 points of
Benevolent disposition, or if the Watcher has any amount of
Benevolent disposition combined with being a Kind Wayfarer.
A Bluff check of 4, followed by a second Bluff check of 6,
followed by either a dialogue option based on having 2 points of
positive reputation with the Principi or another dialogue option
based on having 2 points of Honest disposition.
You could also select a dialogue option that attacks them and gets minor
positive reputation with the Delver's Row Criminals.
Now head back to Dereo. Choosing the dialogue option that asks about
the Cornett now also leads to a new dialogue option whereby you can
inform Dereo that you got attacked by Ateiro. That will gain you minor
positive reputation with the Delver's Row Criminals.
There will also be another new dialogue option asking him if you have
the artifact he's looking for. You get rewarded with 300cp and minor
positive reputation with the Delver's Row Criminals. He now wants you to
take it to the Undercroft.
You can get more out of the Quest by also getting the other Cornett
that forms part of a pair.
Speak to Overseer Hitenga at #14 on the map of The
Gullet about entering Old City, if you have not previously done
so.
A Survival check of 5, a History check of 3, or 200cp will suffice to
convince him to give you permission.
The Temple Ruins will be at #5. Click on it to begin a scripted
interaction. a Survival check of 6 will note that the bones around the
Ruins seem suspicious. A Perception check of 13 detects faint echoes
from within the pool.
Diving into the pool leads to obtaining the Cornett
of the Depths. You must make an Athletics check of 14 and a
Constitution check of 16 to avoid getting the Fatigued injury, which
lasts until Resting or finding some other means to remove injuries (e.g.,
Luminous Adra Potion).
Getting the Cornett of Depths
will cause several Skeletons to attack. They include a Risen Wizard and
a pair of Skeleton Sorcerers. The Sorcerers leave behind Skeletal
Wizard Grimoire, while the Risen Wizard will leave behind the Risen Wizard Grimoire.
The next objective is the Old
City Ruins, and there's more than one way to get there.
You would end up at #1 on the map of the Old
City Ruins. Your objective is to reach Old
City proper through the tunnel at #10.
Keep in mind that if you do things this way, the only way back up to the
surface is through the Undercroft.
Go to the southwest corner and press the hidden button at #5 to open the
door at #6. Your contact, Gwenfin, will be waiting in the room at #7.
The tunnel at #8 will lead back to the Old
City Ruins will lead to the Undercroft.
The alternative method involves first going through Delver's Row. If
you haven't already been there, Dereo is willing to give directions for
reaching it through The Narrows. Go right, then forward, and then check
behind the curtain next to the merchant stall.
You will start off at #1 on the map of Delver's
Row. The lift at #11 is your destination. Flashing the Marked
Suole or saying you've been sent by Dereo will be enough to get
you past the guards at #10.
The lift will bring you to #1 on the map of the Undercroft.
*NOTE* The skiff at #8 can bring you to Queen's
Berth at #32.
Gwenfin will be waiting for you at the tunnel at #7.
The tunnel itself leads to #8 on the map of the Old
City Ruins. Gwenfin will be near the statue of Ondra at #7. Click
on the statue to begin a scripted interaction, and place the Cornett
of Waves in its hand to open the door at #6.
Whether you do or not, you can go through the tunnel at #10 to reach Old City.
Alternatively, if you are in the Old City Overlook, you can go to the stairs at #10. They will bring you to Old City at #5. But be warned that any characters who do not have at least 11 Dexterity will suffer an Injury afterwards.
You start off at #1 on the map of Old
City. Make your way to the Statue of Ondra at #7. You can use
either the Cornett of Waves
or the Cornett of Depths
on it to open the door at #8.
There is a Giant Cave Grub
at #9, which can be really tough for lower-level parties to handle. It
can summon Cave Grubs and Cave Grublings to its aid. You can also sneak
around it along the edges of the room if you prefer.
The room on the other side of the door has two locked sarcophagi. The
locked one at #12 has a Large Shield named Cadhu
Scalth in it. The other one at #13 has a Pollaxe named Wahai
Poraga in it.
The mural in the room itself is what is of interest to Dereo.
Go back to Gwenfin in the Old
City Ruins for an xp bonus. A History check of 2 will reveal that
the mural was a depiction of the lost city of Ukaizo.
Now go back and speak to Dereo. An Insight check of 4 will not
be able to reveal the extent of Dereo's interest in Ukaizo. However, a
Bluff check of 6 or a History check of 7 will reveal that the governing
council of the Principi is interested in Ukaizo as an island of fabled
fertility and resources.
He will now reward you with at least a Blunderbuss called the Kitchen
Stove.
Making a Diplomacy check of 4 or a Streetwise check of 4 can net an
extra 200cp, even if you did not previously get Dereo to admit the
extent of the Principi's interest in Ukaizo.
However, if you did previously uncover that interest, there will now be
a dialogue option that obtains both 500cp and a moderate gain of
reputation with the Principi.
