The Lantern of Gaun

Port Maje Harbor

  1. Xoti JoinsGo to the Children of the Dawnstar at #3 in Port Maje Harbor. Xoti can join your party after some conversation.

  2. The objective becomes one of finding souls that Xoti can harvest into her lantern. They can be found at:
  3. She will want to speak to you after collecting two of the souls, like in Gorecci Street, but nothing particularly hinges on the conversation itself.

  4. She'll want to harvest souls from the dead husks at #2 in the Engwithan Digsite, but she won't be able to.

  5. You don't have to collect every last one of the souls mentioned in the list. You can make progress by collecting enough of them. Xoti will want to speak to you again once she's gathered enough souls in her Lantern. Carrying around so many souls is causing her to have more intense nightmares, and she wants your advice on what to do about it.

You have two basic dialogue choices. One is to tell her to "relight the lanterns of Hel", which is implicitly the good choice. The other is to "Embrace the Harvest, which is implicitly the evil choice.

  6. She is now ready to perform a ritual. Go to The Sacred Stair.
  7. The Sacred Stair

  8. The stairs at #22 lead to the Temple of Gaun at #1.
  9. Temple of Gaun

  10. Xoti's RitualGo to the Statue of Gaun at #2. Xoti will now perform a ritual.

She will have another conversation with you immediately after performing the ritual. Note that asking her what would happen if she stopped collecting souls will tend to lead to the "light" ending for the question, even if you've previously encouraged her to embrace the darkness. A good idea is often to end the conversation abruptly if you want to preserve your previous choice.

  11. Speak to her again afterwards on your own initiative. Her nightmares are getting worse, and she's more desperate than ever to release the spirits.

Encouraging her to release the souls will tend to lead to the "light" ending, while encourage her to kill someone or to hold onto the souls will tend to lead to the "dark" ending.

Finishing the quest now means finding a way for her to unload the souls.

  12. One option is for her to find a Luminous Adra Pillar where she can release the spirits. They include:

  13. Another option is to go to Flaune Elette at #3 on the Rooftop of the Spire of the Soul Seers. Flaune can take the souls from Xoti for purposes of her animancy experiments.

  14. However you do it, it will complete the quest and you'll gain a unique item called the Luminous Adra Mantle. It can be used to enchant Xoti's shield, Xoti's Lantern. The enchantment that becomes available depends on the dialogue choice you made when Xoti first spoke to you in earnest about her waking nightmares.

  15. If you had told her to "relight the lanterns of Hel", she can only use the Luminous Adra Mantle and 3,000cp to give Xoti's Lantern the Light of the Dawnstar enchantment. That enchantment increases Spell Resistance for allies within a 5m' Radius.

If you had told her to "Embrance the Harvest", she can only use the Luminous Adra Mantle and 3,000cp to give Xoti's Lantern the Threshing Aura enchantment. The enchantment increases damage inflicted by allies within a 5m' Radius.
